FOR
SAFE FAMILIES PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Position Assignment
Title: Safe Families Program Coordinator
Recruited by: GMA/SF Advisory Board Search Committee
Approved by: LYDIA/Safe Families-Chicago (after GMA/SF Advisory Board
recommendation)
Requirements: Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or
comparable professional experience required; Master’s Degree
preferred.

Attributes/Qualities: Coordinator must be a self-starter, organized, and assertive. He/she


must also be able to communicate effectively and work with staff,
volunteers, and community partners. There must be a recognizable
passion, calling and giftedness, as well as being willing and able to
support the mission of LYDIA/Safe Families.
Time Demands: Part-time (.5FTE) or Full-time (1FTE)
Salary Range: $14k-$16K or $28K-$32K

Working Relationships:
Reports to: LYDIA/Safe Families-Chicago and GMA/SF Advisory
Board
Oversees the Administrative
Team of staff & volunteers: Works closely with Case Coach Supervisor, Authorization and
Outreach Specialist, the GMA SF Advisory Board, other WI SF
programs, church leaders and community service providers to enhance
the effectiveness of the Safe Families ministry.

Basic Functions:

To be responsible for the overall development and coordination of the Safe Families ministry in the
greater-Madison area.

1. To coordinate and promote community relations and program publicity; to include outreach to
local area churches and to community service providers;
2. Coordinate the recruitment, interviewing, screening, training, and supervision of support Safe
Family volunteers (Family Friends, Case Coaches, Family Coaches, etc.);
3. Coordinate the recruitment, interviewing, screening, training, and supervision of Host Safe
Families;

4. Oversee the referral and intake process, assessing the needs of at-risk families and working
towards the stabilization and reunification of children with their biological family;

5. Coordinate the Safe Family selection, transportation and placement of children into Host Safe
Family homes;

6. Oversee the management of the Safe Families’ data base and program placement & Host Safe
Family files;

7. Ensure the initial and ongoing needs of the children and families requesting services are
achieved in accordance to the Safe Families’ policies and procedures;

8. Coordinate on-going training, evaluation and supervision for all Safe Family staff and volunteers
under direction of the LYDIA Executive Director;

9. Oversee implementation of budget, maintenance of financial records, communication with


agency personnel or finance office, gathering of necessary statistics, helping to expand the
financial resources of the program by working with development staff to expand foundation and
private support;
10. Responsible for public relations/marketing; including attending meetings, creating written
materials (in collaboration with development staff), and building relationships with those
churches and agencies involved in referrals; establishing signed MOUs;
11. Involvement in program growth and development by: expanding the referral base for at-risk
families, expanding the number of Safe Family volunteers willing to serve by developing
creative church outreach strategies, and expanding the geographical reach of the program;
12. Oversee connection of Safe Family volunteers and local church and community via Safe Family
social networking (NING-site) and sharing of goods & services (YouShare site);
13. Ensure all program goals and objectives are achieved within the prescribed time frame;

14. Assume the responsibilities of the Case Coach and/or Authorization & Outreach Specialist duties
if those positions are not filled or until they are filled by a staff or volunteer;
15. To perform such other duties as assigned.
