a classic because it functions on so many levels, as a novel, a satire, a fable and an allegory.

First, Animal Farm is considered a novel. A novel is a moderately long story-Animal Farm has
137 pages in it, which meets the requirements of a novel. The first example why Animal Farm is
a novel is because it is a long fictional story that has a series of events and the plot is full of
irony. Secondly, Animal Farm has a dramatic storyline where each event leads to another one
more dramatic. Lastly, Animal Farm is a unique story where no other story is similar to it in
many ways. These are the examples of why Animal Farm can be considered a classic novel. This
is Animal Farm’s first function as a story.

Next, Animal Farm is considered a satire. A satire is a form of literature using ridicule to make
people or events look foolish or to make a point. One example of why Animal Farm is a satire is
because Orwell purposely uses animals to give readers a view of what the Russian Revolution
was like. Secondly, the animals in Animal Farm were able to talk, but most of them can’t read
and are considered “stupid”. Lastly, pigs were the ones that ended up ruling over all the other
animals because of the characteristics of pigs and how they act in real life. These are examples
of why Animal Farm can also be considered a satire as its second function.

Other than a satire or a novel, Animal Farm is also considered a fable. A fable is usually a story
with animals in it that ends with a moral. The first reason why Animal Farm is considered a fable
is because there were animals in the story and in the end there was a moral. Secondly, a moral
in Animal Farm is that “power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. The
last example is that the story is seen mostly with the pigs, in particular, Napoleon. The pigs
were given the most power for a good reason; it was simply because they were the smartest of
the group. Too much power can eventually lead to the making of decisions for oneself without
considering others. As you can see, there are many morals in this story and every person in this
world can learn from them.

Finally, Animal Farm is also considered an allegory. An allegory can be a story, picture or play
that represents abstract ideas or principles by characters, figures, or events in narrative,
dramatic, or pictorial form. Animal Farm is considered an allegory because it was turned into a
movie to represent the book visually. Next, Animal Farm had characters that represented other
figures. One example is that Napoleon represented Josef Stalin. Lastly, Animal Farm had many
slogans that represented principles in life, for instance. "Four legs good, two legs bad"
represented propaganda in the Russian History.
