Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning Domains

Abstract

This paper talks about what is Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning domains, its usefulness in

strategic planning. Critical and creative thinking aspects have been touched upon while the

reflection of learning domains on technology rich projects is looked. Simple research conducted

by reading various journals, browsing websites related to Bloom’s taxonomy paved way to

writing this paper whilst also answering some key questions answered as part of home work

number 1 by Dr. Tabi in MBA 515 class is answered.

Body

Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning domains is classification of objectives of learning meant not

just too academic understanding. It has been classified into 3 domains and further into 5

categories for 1 domain and 6 for another and 7 for the remaining.

The name Bloom’s Taxonomy came from the name of the editor of the handbook The Taxonomy

of Educational Objectives, The Classification of Educational Goals, Handbook 1 (Editor:

Benjamin Bloom 1956), along with authors M. D. Englehart, E. J. Furst, W. H. Hill, and David

Krathwohl. Bloom’s part of the taxonomy was pertaining to Cognitive Domain. This was later

revised by his student L. Anderson in the year 2001 is shown in the table below. Authors D.

Krathwohl and W. H. Hill made further revisions to the taxonomy domain of psychomotor at a

later date. The table also makes it easy to understand Bloom’s taxonomy and the various

domains, the changes that were incorporated later on. The categories of domains overlap each

other and are ordered from lowest to highest in terms of value.

Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning Domains

The learning domains are a clear reflection of being synergic to technology- rich. The

psychomotor domain in particular is articulated towards how a student/ trainee have to go

through the stages of technology. While the cognitive domain pertains to strategic planning of an

organization and affective domain out lays the path for human resources and interfaces.

Conclusion

Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning domains is a very cohesive taxonomy which is very critical

for every student who undertake research and also for continuous improvement at both academic

and career levels.
