In 2011 The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific is offering Postgraduate and upper-level
Undergraduate students the opportunity to study China’s politics, foreign policy and political
economy at the University of Torino. Successful applicants will study with leading scholars
from across the globe through the TOChina Summer School 2011. Don’t miss out on this

The TOChina Summer School

The TOChina Summer School offers an intensive course on the politics, international relations and
international political economy of contemporary China. The TOChina Summer School is dedicated to
rigorous, in-depth analysis of contemporary China’s politics, foreign policy and political economy. Its
key strengths lie in the careful selection of themes being examined every year and in the international
profile of both faculty and participants. TOChina is a unique educational venue that offers qualified
young international scholars and budding professionals access to a world-class faculty of prominent
China specialists in an intimate, small-group setting that encourages informal interaction and hands-
on learning.

The TOChina Academic Program
The school runs between June 27th – July 8th 2011. It features lectures and extensive Q&A
sessions every morning with some of the world’s best academics sharing insights on their
specific fields of expertise, including: Richard Baum (UCLA), Kent Deng (LSE), Geun Lee (NSU),
Ashley Tellis (Carnegie), Kerry Brown, (Chatham House), Gudrun Wacker (German Institute
for International and Security Affairs).

Seminar sessions take place in the afternoon, with emerging young scholars from the Asia-
Pacific region presenting papers on their latest research and leading broader discussions in
a more informal context. Participants gain academic credit through enrolment in the course
Special Topics in Asian and the Pacific (ASIA3026/8028).

Application Process

ANU has been guaranteed a limited number of places. Preference will be given to
Postgraduate students in the first instance. Selection will be based on academic merit and
relevance to the student’s overall course of studies.

Costs

r The cost of the program tuition fees is €450, paid directly to the University of Torino.
r For an additional €490 single-room accommodation is availble in one of the on-
campus residences for a total of 14 nights.
r Return airfares.
r Participants are responsible for all living costs for the duration of the program.

Successful applicants may be eligible for the Vice-Chancellor’s Travel Grant. See below for
