9. Course Description: The aim of this course is to provide the students with a
general introduction to English morphology and syntax. It is designed to give the
students a brief glimpse of the theory and practice of the structural grammar of the
English language. A detailed analysis of English morphemes and word formation
processes as well as the structure of English sentences and phrases will be treated.
12. Methods of Assessment: Students are given two mid-term (10 marks each).
Students are also required to give a presentation of a research paper on the
etymology of a word or phrase of their choice (15 marks). Students have to sit in for
a final exam (60 marks). Participation in class (5 marks).
