D71 HIGH SPEED COMMUNICATION NETWORKS
3:0
Preamble: The course “D71: High speed Communication networks” is offered in the

seventh semester in continuation with the course on “D56: Data Communication

Networks”. This course aims to understand high speed network concepts,

performance measures, congestion control and QoS support.

Program Outcomes addressed

a. Graduates will demonstrate knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering.
b. Graduates will demonstrate an ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering
problems.
c. Graduate will demonstrate skills to use modern engineering tools, softwares and
equipment to analyze problems
Competencies: The student at the end of the course should able to
1. Identify the requirements of high speed networks
2. Describe the operation of High speed networks such as frame relay, ATM and high
speed LAN
3. Model and estimate using Queuing analysis and self similar traffic
4. Manage congestion control in packet switched and frame relay networks
5. Manage link level flow and error control
6. Provide QoS and protocol support
