Magnetic Compass

ITT Night Vision, the world’s leading producer
of Generation (Gen) III image intensification
devices, now offers accessories that
significantly enhance the performance of the
AN/PVS-7 night vision goggles (Gen II and
Gen III versions). These include a magnetic
compass, 3X magnifier, helmet mount, and
IR spot/flood lens.
The soldier simply slips the unit over the
objective lens assembly; the unit is fixed focus
for simplified operation.
The compass is activated by a momentary
contact switch, easily used even when wearing
Arctic protection. Brightness is increased by
more firmly pressing the switch button.

MAGNETIC COMPASS An LED provides ample illumination at high

weight (30 grams), practical, auto-focused
device that displays compass bearings directly
through the night vision goggle. The compass
display is overlaid in a small area at the top
of the night vision scene.
Indispensable to pathfinders required to
move at night, the compass is of particu-
lar value to squad and platoon leaders.
light levels, yet is not so bright as to degrade
low-light-level imagery. The LED is powered
by a 10-year, non-replaceable lithium battery.
3X MAGNIFIER
The 3X magnifier lens nearly triples the range
of the AN/PVS-7 goggle under all light
conditions, providing earlier target detection
and recognition for tank commanders, scouts,
and selected infantry personnel.
 To attach the magnifier, the user may either
thread it directly into the AN/PVS-7 objective
lens or thread it into an adapter, which then
can be pushed over the objective lens for very
rapid mount and demount. The adaptor (push-
on version) is compatible with the standard AN/
PVS-7 laser protection filters.
Because it can be attached or removed in less
than 10 seconds, the magnifier conveniently
allows the flexibility of dual-mode operation
with the goggle: either 1X for standard opera-
tion or 3X for long-range observation. Also, it
can be used as a stand-alone 3X monocular
during daylight operations.
The lightweight magnifier (180 grams) stores
easily in a protective pouch similar in size to
the current ammo pouch.
HELMET MOUNT
The new helmet mount assembly provides
the user with an easier, more comfortable
mounting option when wearing the goggle.
This mount allows direct attachment of the
goggle to the PASGT helmet as opposed to
the standard head-mount assembly.
Easy to install and remove, the adjustable,
clamp-on mount maintains good rigidity on all
helmet sizes.
In addition to the standard fore/aft adjust-
ment needed to accommodate the use of
protective masks, the unit has flip-up/flip-down
capability to store the goggle away from the
face or to reposition it for viewing.
IR SPOT/FLOOD LENS
The IR spot/flood lens, which is an infrared
equivalent to a flashlight, provides the soldier
with expanded and improved goggle per-
formance under extremely dark conditions.
The spot/flood accessory converts the
standard AN/PVS-7 IR illuminator from a
diffuse light source, covering much more
than the goggle field of view, to a beam
of light that can be focused from 20° to 50°.
Because the beam through the spot/flood
lens is much more intense, the beam is usable
beyond 50 meters.
Although the IR light is active and can be
seen by others using image intensifica-
tion equipment, the user’s covertness is
improved outside the field of view because
stray illumination is greatly reduced.
