What is Google?

Google inc., nicknamed as “Google Guys”, is an American multinational public corporation that was found

by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Google implements internet search, cloud computing, and advertising technologies.

Google builds up a large number of internet-based products and services. Google tends to primarily generate profit

from advertising through its “Ad Words” program. Google’s stated mission from the beginning was “to organize the

world's information and make it universally accessible and useful"; in addition, Google’s unofficial slogan that was

made up by Google engineer Paul Buchheit was “Don’t be evil”.

Google operates more than one million servers in data centers around the world, develops more than one

billion search requests, and around twenty-four petabytes of user-generated data every day. Google provides online

productivity software; for example, the Gmail mail, social networking tools, and the Google Buzz that was

introduced recently. Furthermore, Google’s products expands desktops as well, for example, the web browser

Google Chrome, Picasa (photo organization and editing software), and the Google Talk instant messaging

application.
Why is Google so popular?

There are many reasons that make Google popular and almost everyone around the world uses it for web

browsing. Google was able to achieve this success because it contains and indexes a huge number of web pages. It

searches more than 9 billion URL’s. Google is very simple to use and that is one of the reasons why people use it

frequently.

Google also provides toolbars with a small search box on top of the Internet browser page, which eases the

way of search. The uncluttered and simple web pages makes it easier for users to find what they are looking for and

Google provides such pages that are mostly white and blue with a very clear design. Google has respect for online

advertisers as it allows almost anyone to advertise and for a small commission per clicks.
How can Google maintain its
competitive advantage?

Google is the most popular search engine in the world. What differentiate Google from others is that they

have the fastest and most efficient search engine, when you hit enter you will get the results back with a fraction of a

second. The efficiency of Google services is the reason why people turn to Google.

The rich search and related search products that Google innovates constantly are considered another

competitive advantage for them. For example: Google map, Google word processing and Gmail. The more people

use Google’s internet applications the better it is for Google because they store all the information and they will be

in control of the entire data source. The unique infrastructure of the software and the storage system that Google

uses and the way it handle data creates economies of scale for Google, which is another competitive advantage for

Google.

In simple words Google adds value to the firm, it is hard to duplicate, and has rare Google products that its

competitors don’t have. In conclusion, in order for Google to sustain its competitive advantage they need to keep

innovation going and come up with new ideas and strategies.

information about a product or service that are related to a certain business. It provides a sponsored link alongside

to the right of the Google web page or above the search results on the Google results page which directs a person to

the certain business. The Ad or link to the specific business can also appear in Google Groups, the Google

Directory, on the search and content sites and products in the Google Network. Google Adwords pricing technique

is based on pay-per click which means, the client pays based on the number of times the link is clicked on. There is a

small activation fee paid for one time in the beginning to launch the ad, and then the client can have a certain

agreement about how much they are willing to pay per click.

revenue from their personal websites. Revenue can be earned by displaying relevant ads and online content on the

website such as: placing a Google site search engine on the web publishers website, by displaying ads for other

websites that are relevant to the audience, and by placing Mobile webpages and applications on the web publishers

website that allows mobile users to connect with the right ad at the right time and directly search for information. It

allows web publishers to earn money through allowing visitors to click on other websites related to your business.

The pricing technique for Adsense is through relevant CPC (cost-per-click) and CPM (cost per thousand

impressions). With ad sense the web publishers can also track their earnings through online reports that offer details

like the number of page impressions, clicks and click-through rate. It can also track the performance of certain ads
