These days you are hearing more and more about mutual funds as a means of investment.
If you are like most people, you probably have most of your money in a bank savings account
and your biggest investment may be your home. Apart from that, investing is probably
something you simply do not have the time or knowledge to get involved in. You are not the
only one. This is why investing through mutual funds has become such a popular way of
investing.
Different investment avenues are available to investors. Mutual funds also offer good
investment opportunities to the investors. Like all investments, they also carry certain risks. The
investors should compare the risks and expected yields after adjustment of tax on various
instruments while taking investment decisions. The investors may seek advice from experts and
consultants including agents and distributors of mutual funds schemes while making investment
decisions. With an objective to make the investors aware of functioning of mutual funds, an
attempt has been made to provide information in question-answer format which may help the
investors in taking investment decisions.
Mutual fund is a pool of money collected from investors and is invested according to certain
investment options. A mutual fund is a trust that pools the saving of a no. of investors who share
a common financial goal. A mutual fund is created when investors put their money together. It is,
therefore, a pool of investor’s fund. The money thus collected is then invested in capital market
instruments such as shares, debentures and other securities. The income earned through these
investments and the capital appreciations realized are shared by its unit holders in proportion to
the no. of units owned by them.
The most important characteristics of a fund are that the contributors and the beneficiaries of the
fund are the same class of people namely the investors. The term mutual fund means the
investors contribute to the pool and also benefit from the pool. The pool of funds held mutually
by investors is the mutual fund.
A mutual fund business is to invest the funds thus collected according to the wishes of the
investors who created the pool. Usually the investors appoint professional investment managers
create a product and offer it for investment to the investors. This project represents a share in the
pool and pre status investment objectives.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
Nowadays there are many companies coming up with their mutual funds. So a variety of
mutual funds are coming in the market. One of the benefits for the investors is that they are
having many options for their investments. But on the contrary that is also a drawback as too
many funds are coming up on daily basis so the investors get confused in choosing the right fund
for their investments. So seeing to this I has chosen the balanced fund scheme for the research.
OBJECTIVES OF STUDY :
(1) To identify the future growth & past performance of the funds.
(2) To compare the features of the fund of all the companies who indulge in mutual
funds.
(4) Objective is to provide information to investors what are the best investment for their hard
money most profitably with less risky.
In my project the scope is limited to some prominent mutual funds in the mutual fund industry. I
analyzed the funds depending on their schemes like equity, income, balance. But there is so
many other schemes in mutual fund industry like specialized (banking, infrastructure, pharmacy)
funds, index funds etc.
My study is mainly concentrated on equity schemes and fixed income based securities (balanced
fund schemes).
