Introduction
If someone wants to get established in short span of time, studying engineering is a very
good choice. Exposure to the world is relatively larger than any other courses. Life in
engineering is challenging and an engineer needs to constantly strive.

WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination)


Every state conducts its own entrance exam for admission in medical, engineering and other
professional courses. It is very hard to appear and get admitted into colleges of other states
except through AIEEE that will be discussed later. So, we should better try for the entrance
exam of our state.
Eligibility: HS with Science (Phys, Chem, Math for Engineering and Phys, Chem, Biology
for Medical).
Admission Process: Counseling based on JEE Rank. For the list of disciplines, visit

Course Fee: ~Rs 200-1500/month for government colleges (tuition) + others; ~Rs. 5000-
6000/month for private colleges (tuition) + others
Duration: 4 years for B.E./B.Tech.

AIEEE
All India level test for admission into central institutes of engineering. The syllabus is based
on CBSE 12th Std.

IIT Entrance Examination


Syllabus: CBSE
Fee: Rs 35000/sem + others

AIME
One can obtain engineering degrees from home by only passing the semester wise
examinations on subjects of the corresponding discipline. However, candidates feel it too
difficult to pursue. So, it is better to avoid.

MBA
Eligibility: After BE/BTech or graduation
Admission Process: Through CET (Common Entrance Test)
Course Fee: Very high (Rs 6-12 lakhs package)
Duration: 2 years
Opportunities:
Lucrative jobs; BE/BTech with MBA gets huge salaries, say Rs. 15 lakhs/annum)

Diploma in Diff. Branches/ Polytechnic


Eligibility: X with marks or X with JEXPO
Ply 40: 40% seats for diploma are allocated for students after X. Admission done purely on
the basis of marks. Remaining 60% from JEXPO; It’s question is based on Xth syllabus)
Admission Process: Counseling
Course Fee: Rs 1000/semester for govt. colleges; more for private colleges
Duration: 3 years

ME/MTech
Eligibility: BE/BTech with GATE Score
Admission Process: Individual application
Course Fee: Minimal fee, say Rs 200-1000/month; candidate will get scholarship of Rs.

Duration: 2 years

MS (Master of Science)
MS is equivalent to ME/MTech. Foreign institutes give MS instead of ME/MTech. In India,
only IITs give MS.
Admission in India: Through personal contact with faculty members of reputed institutes;
Then admission test; 3 years duration. Good amount of fellowship (~Rs 15000-35000)
obtained.
Admission in Abroad: Through GRE (Graduates Record Examination) and TOEFL (Test of
English as a Foreign Language) score; Recommendation from reputed faculty members of
Indian institutes. Good amount of scholarship available. You can send the excess money to
home.

PhD/Research
Lot of fellowship and grants; Direct approach to supervisors; They will guide for the rest of
the processes; Lot of opportunities in India and abroad;

MCA (Master of Computer Application)


BSC with Math candidates can appear in JECA and get admitted for MCA.

B. Arch. (Bachelor of Architecture)


Eligibility: XII with Science with WBJEE with National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA)
Admission Process: Counseling
Course Fee: Rs. 200-1000/month (tuition fee) + others
Duration: 5 Years

Course Fee: ~Rs. 2000/year (tuition fee) + others
Duration: 2 Years

colleges); Management quota if joint entrance candidate not found; high donation

Course Fee: Rs 200-1000/month for Govt. colleges; Rs 45,000/sem for private colleges
Duration: 4 years

~Rs 8000/month if GPAT and/or NIPER qualified at govt. colleges; To IITs(Biotechnology)
through GPAT with fellowship
Duration: 2 years
Job Opportunities:

(b) Lot of govt. and private jobs such as Drug Inspector, Drug Controller, R&D, Quality
Control, Quality Assurance, etc.

PhD in Pharmacy
The candidate can counsel at this stage; Huge opportunities after PhD;
