Feast of Mashiyyat (Will)

Praise be to Thee, O Lord my God!

I am the one who hath sought the good pleasure of
Thy will, and directed his steps towards the seat of
Thy gracious favors. I am he who hath forsaken his
all, who hath fled to Thee for shelter, who hath set
his face towards the tabernacle of Thy revelation
and the adored sanctuary of Thy glory. I beseech
Thee, O my Lord, by Thy call whereby they who
recognized Thy unity have sought the shadow of
Thy most gracious providence, and the sincere have
fled far from themselves unto Thy name, the Most
Exalted, the All-Glorious, through which Thy verses
were sent down, and Thy word fulfilled, and Thy
proof manifested, and the sun of Thy beauty risen,
and Thy testimony established, and Thy signs
uncovered,—I beseech Thee to grant that I may be numbered with them that have
quaffed the wine that is life indeed from the hands of Thy gracious providence, and have
rid themselves, in Thy path, of all attachment to Thy creatures, and been so inebriated
with Thy manifold wisdom that they hastened to the field of sacrifice with Thy praise on
their lips and Thy remembrance in their hearts. Send down, also, upon me, O my God,
that which will wash me from anything that is not of Thee, and deliver me from Thine
enemies who have disbelieved in Thy signs. Potent art Thou to do what Thou willest. No
God is there beside Thee, the Help in Peril, the Self-Subsisting.

 O God, my God!
Fill up for me the cup of detachment from all things, and in the assembly of Thy
splendors and bestowals, rejoice me with the wine of loving Thee. Free me from the
assaults of passion and desire, break off from me the shackles of this nether world, draw
me with rapture unto Thy supernal realm, and refresh me amongst the handmaids with
the breathing of Thy holiness.

O Lord, brighten Thou my face with the lights of Thy bestowals, light Thou mine eyes
with beholding the signs of Thine all-subduing might; delight my heart with the glory of
Thy knowledge that encompasseth all things, gladden Thou my soul with Thy soul-
reviving tidings of great joy, O Thou King of this world and the Kingdom above, O Thou
Lord of dominion and might, that I may spread abroad Thy signs and tokens, and
proclaim Thy Cause, and promote Thy teachings, and serve Thy Law and exalt Thy
Word.

Thou art, verily, the Powerful, the Ever-Giving, the Able, the Omnipotent.

To every discerning and illumined heart it is evident that God, the unknowable Essence,
the divine Being, is immensely exalted beyond every human attribute, such as corporeal
existence, ascent and descent, egress and regress. Far be it from His glory that human
tongue should adequately recount His praise, or that human heart comprehend His
fathomless mystery. He is and hath ever been veiled in the ancient eternity of His Essence,
and will remain in His Reality everlastingly hidden from the sight of men. “No vision
taketh in Him, but He taketh in all vision; He is the Subtile, the All-Perceiving.. No tie of
direct intercourse can possibly bind Him to His creatures. He standeth exalted beyond
and above all separation and union, all proximity and remoteness. No sign can indicate
His presence or His absence; inasmuch as by a word of His command all that are in
heaven and on earth have come to exist, and by His wish, which is the Primal Will itself,
all have stepped out of utter nothingness into the realm of being, the world of the visible.

Say: O people of the Bayán!

Did We not admonish you, in all Our Tablets and in all Our hidden Scriptures, not to
follow your evil passions and corrupt inclinations, but to keep your eyes directed towards
the Scene of transcendent glory, on the Day when the Most Mighty Balance shall be set,
the Day when the sweet melodies of the Spirit of God shall be poured out from the right
hand of the throne of your Lord, the omnipotent Protector, the All-Powerful, the Holy of
Holies? Did We not forbid you to cleave to the things that would shut you out from the
Manifestation of our Beauty, in its subsequent Revelation, be they the embodiments of the
names of God and all their glory, or the revealers of His attributes and their dominion?
Behold, how, as soon as I revealed Myself, ye have rejected My truth and turned away
from Me, and been of them that have regarded the signs of God as a play and pastime!

By My Beauty! Nothing whatsoever shall, in this Day, be accepted from you, though ye
continue to worship and prostrate yourselves before God throughout the eternity of His
dominion. For all things are dependent upon His Will, and the worth of all acts is
conditioned upon His acceptance and pleasure. The whole universe is but a handful of
clay in His grasp. Unless one recognize God and love Him, his cry shall not be heard by
God in this Day. This is of the essence of His Faith, did ye but know it.
Will ye be content with that which is like the vapor in a plain, and be willing to forgo the
Ocean Whose waters refresh, by virtue of the Will of God, the souls of men? Woe unto
you, for having repaid the bounty of God with so vain and contemptible a thing! Ye are,
indeed, of them that have rejected Me in My previous Revelation. Would that your hearts
could comprehend!

Arise, and, under the eyes of God, atone for your failures in duty towards Him. This is My
commandment unto you, were ye to incline your ears unto My commandment. By Mine
own Self! Neither the people of the Qur’án, nor the followers of either the Torah or the
Evangel, nor those of any other Book, have committed that which your hands have
wrought. I, Myself, have dedicated My whole life to the vindication of the truth of this
Faith. I, Myself, have announced, in all My Tablets, the advent of His Revelation. And yet,
no sooner did He manifest Himself, in His subsequent Revelation, clothed in the glory of
Bahá and arrayed in the robe of His grandeur, than ye rebelled against Him Who is the
supreme Protector, the Self-Subsisting. Beware, O people! Be ye ashamed of that which
hath befallen Me at your hands in the path of God. Take heed that ye be not of them that
have rejected that which hath been sent down unto them from the Heaven of God’s
transcendent glory.

Such, O Letter of the Living, are the words which thy Lord hath spoken, and addressed
unto thee from the realms above. Proclaim the words of thy Lord unto His servants, that
perchance they may shake off their slumber, and ask pardon of God, Who hath formed
and fashioned them, and sent down unto them this most effulgent, this most holy, and
manifest Revelation of His Beauty.

O thou who art turning thy face towards God! Close thine eyes to all things else, and
open them to the realm of the All-Glorious. Ask whatsoever thou wishest of Him alone;
seek whatsoever thou seekest from Him alone. With a look He granteth a hundred
thousand hopes, with a glance He healeth a hundred thousand incurable ills, with a nod
He layeth balm on every wound, with a glimpse He freeth the hearts from the shackles of
grief. He doeth as He doeth, and what recourse have we? He carrieth out His Will, He
ordaineth what He pleaseth. Then better for thee to bow down thy head in submission,
and put thy trust in the All-Merciful Lord.

O My Friends!
Have ye forgotten that true and radiant morn, when in those hallowed and blessed
surroundings ye were all gathered in My presence beneath the shade of the tree of life,
which is planted in the all-glorious paradise? Awe-struck ye listened as I gave utterance to
these three most holy words: O friends! Prefer not your will to Mine, never desire that
which I have not desired for you, and approach Me not with lifeless hearts, defiled with
worldly desires and cravings. Would ye but sanctify your souls, ye would at this present
hour recall that place and those surroundings, and the truth of My utterance should be
made evident unto all of you.

Bahá'u'lláh, Hidden Words

O people of God!
Do not busy yourselves in your own concerns; let your thoughts be fixed upon that which
will rehabilitate the fortunes of mankind and sanctify the hearts and souls of men. This
can best be achieved through pure and holy deeds, through a virtuous life and a goodly
behavior. Valiant acts will ensure the triumph of this Cause, and a saintly character will
reinforce its power. Cleave unto righteousness, O people of Bahá! This, verily, is the
commandment which this wronged One hath given unto you, and the first choice of His
unrestrained Will for every one of you.

Gleanings of Bahá’u’lláh

The word of God which the Supreme Pen hath recorded on the Sixth Leaf of the Most
Exalted Paradise is the following:

The light of men is Justice. Quench it not with the contrary winds of oppression and
tyranny. The purpose of justice is the appearance of unity among men. The ocean of
divine wisdom surgeth within this exalted word, while the books of the world cannot
contain its inner significance. Were mankind to be adorned with this raiment, they would
behold the day-star of the utterance, `On that day God will satisfy everyone out of His
abundance,' shining resplendent above the horizon of the world. Appreciate ye the value
of this utterance; it is a noble fruit that the Tree of the Pen of Glory hath yielded. Happy is

the man that giveth ear unto it and observeth its precepts. Verily I say, whatever is sent
down from the heaven of the Will of God is the means for the establishment of order in
the world and the instrument for promoting unity and fellowship among its peoples. Thus
hath the Tongue of this Wronged One spoken from His Most Great Prison.

Tablets of Bahá'u'lláh

O wayfarer in the path of God! Take thou thy portion of the ocean of His grace, and
deprive not thyself of the things that lie hidden in its depths. Be thou of them that have
partaken of its treasures. A dewdrop out of this ocean would, if shed upon all that are in
the heavens and on the earth, suffice to enrich them with the bounty of God, the
Almighty, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise. With the hands of renunciation draw forth from
its life-giving waters, and sprinkle therewith all created things, that they may be cleansed
from all man-made limitations and may approach the mighty seat of God, this hallowed
and resplendent Spot.
Be not grieved if thou performest it thyself alone. Let God be all-sufficient for thee.
Commune intimately with His Spirit, and be thou of the thankful. Proclaim the Cause of
thy Lord unto all who are in the heavens and on the earth. Should any man respond to thy
call, lay bare before him the pearls of the wisdom of the Lord, thy God, which His Spirit
hath sent down unto thee, and be thou of them that truly believe. And should any one
reject thine offer, turn thou away from him, and put thy trust and confidence in the Lord,
thy God, the Lord of all worlds.

TWELVE BAHÁ'Í PRINCIPLES

The year was 1844,

Man's spiritual side required more.
God sent us a Manifestation,
That merits our investigation.

God's great power was released,

Knowledge and guidance was increased.
There was a key that opened the book,
God would solve all if we'd take a look.

Revelations had long been sealed,

Include other religions now revealed.
Tolerance and unity to encompass,
A world at peace will now surpass.

Everyone must be educated,

For problems to be eradicated.
Think in terms of universality,
Then unity becomes reality.

Mankind should be like one family,

Without prejudice it loves easily.
Science and religion must agree,
For peace in a world thafs meant to be.

Men and women are equal to balance,

A world widely out of compliance.
An auxilary language to vent,
Computers are coming, messages sent.

Universal measures so shuttles will fly,

Mankind must unite or wither and die.
If in space we met another race,
What worldly language would we embrace?

No one tells us what to believe,

We investigate the info we receive.
States united worked out great,
Countries united we'd celebrate.

We pray for peace, yet fight it,

When united with love we profit.
Look back over time and see the score,
The turning point was 1844.

Unto Thee be praise, O Lord my God! I entreat Thee, by Thy signs that have
encompassed the entire creation, and by the light of Thy countenance that hath
illuminated all that are in heaven and on earth, and by Thy mercy that hath surpassed all
created things, and by Thy grace that hath suffused the whole universe, to rend asunder
the veils that shut me out from Thee, that I may hasten unto the Fountain-Head of Thy
mighty inspiration, and to the Day-Spring of Thy Revelation and bountiful favors, and
may be immersed beneath the ocean of Thy nearness and pleasure.

Suffer me not, O my Lord, to be deprived of the knowledge of Thee in Thy days, and
divest me not of the robe of Thy guidance. Give me to drink of the river that is life
indeed, whose waters have streamed forth from the Paradise (Ridván) in which the throne
of Thy Name, the All-Merciful, was established, that mine eyes may be opened, and my
face be illumined, and my heart be assured, and my soul be enlightened, and my steps be
made firm.

Thou art He Who from everlasting was, through the potency of His might, supreme over
all things, and, through the operation of His will, was able to ordain all things. Nothing
whatsoever, whether in Thy heaven or on Thy earth, can frustrate Thy purpose. Have
mercy, then, upon me, O my Lord, through Thy gracious providence and generosity, and
incline mine ear to the sweet melodies of the birds that warble their praise of Thee,
amidst the branches of the tree of Thy oneness.
