 1. THE IMPORTANCE OF HIS
PERSONALITY

This is important to emphasise as he

does not speak from himself or of
himself.
He speaks what he hears - Jn 16:13,
Acts 13:2
He comes to glorify Christ - John 16:14
The Father and Son speak for themselves
and use the personal pronoun ‘I’ - they
are in constant conversation, communion
and co-operation with one another.

 HS was not recognised as a
personality until after that of
Father and Son (which
happened at the council of
Nicea 325AD)
Having said that the Bible is
clear on the personality of the
HS within the Trinity, forming
one God with three persons.

1. Convicts - Jn. 16:8 - And when he

comes, he will convict the world concerning
sin and righteousness and judgment:
2. Teaches - Jn 14:26 -But the
Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father
will send in my name, he will teach you all
things and bring to your remembrance all
that I have said to you.
3. Speaks - Gal 4:6 - And because you
are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his
Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"

heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and

the proceeds of the land?
Heb 10:29 - How much worse
punishment, do you think, will be
deserved by the one who has
spurned the Son of God, and has
profaned the blood of the
covenant by which he was
sanctified, and has outraged the
Spirit of grace?

 3. The Bible terms referring to the Holy Spirit
all imply his personality
Another comforter (advocate, helper), therefore as
much as person as Christ - Jn 14:16-17 -And I will ask
the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you
forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot
receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him.You know
him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
Called a spirit in the same way God is - Jn 4:24
Masculine pronouns are used of the Holy
Spirit - usually in Greek spirit is a neuter noun - Jn
14:16-17 (see above)

 3. HOLY SPIRIT IS CO-EQUAL WITH
FATHER AND SON

1. He is called God - Acts 5:3-4 -

But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan
filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit
and to keep back for yourself part of the
proceeds of the land? While it remained
unsold, did it not remain your own? And
after it was sold, was it not at your
disposal? Why is it that you have contrived
this deed in your heart? You have not lied
to men but to God."

 2. He has the attributes of God
- 1 Cor 2:9-11 - But, as it is written,
"What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor
the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love
him"—these things God has revealed to
us through the Spirit. For the Spirit
searches everything, even the depths of
God. For who knows a person’s thoughts
except the spirit of that person, which is in
him? So also no one comprehends the
thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

 3. He performs the works of
God
Ps 104:30 - When you send forth your
Spirit, they are created, and you renew the
face of the ground.
2 Peter 1:21 - For no prophecy was
ever produced by the will of man, but men
spoke from God as they were carried
along by the Holy Spirit.
1 Cor 6:11 - And such were some of
you. But you were washed, you were
sanctified, you were justified in the name
of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit
of our God.

pondering the vision, the Spirit said to
him, "Behold, three men are looking for

them."
As such he is to be obeyed - believers
experience, guidance, instruction,
sufficiency of H. Sp.
