plane was bouncing
through a rice paddy — all
the time being ripped apart
at nearly every seam — the
young lieutenant was able
to focus on positioning
herself, and others around
her, to survive the crash.

Playing dress up for a good cause
When I was a little girl
one of my favorite pastimes
was playing dress up. I’d
love to tell you that my
favorite pretend outfits
were business suits com-
plete with pretend brief-
cases and that I went to
pretend meetings but that
wouldn’t be true. No, when
I played dress up, it was
dressings – prom dresses,
wedding dresses, princess
dresses — give me anything
that had some sparkles or
some satin and I was on
board.
It’s no surprise then that
one of my favorite events
each year is the Hospice
of Michigan Mask Project
ball, which takes place this
year on Saturday, April
30 at the Pentwater Yacht
Club. The Hospice office
is in Ludington, but the
agency serves five counties
including Manistee and the
support for Hospice – and
its signature event – comes
from all over the area.
One of the features of the
event is honoring “Unsung
Heroes” – volunteers from
each community Hospice

MAPS Preschool program has both
3 & 4 year old programs
This is a tuition based program. The 4 year old program will be held
on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The cost is a $40 registration
fee and $100/month. The morning program is from 8:00-11:00
and the afternoon program is from 12:15-3:15.
