JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Assistant Manager (Mechanical)

Classification: Assistant Manager (Scale 4)

Section/Division: Generation (Electricity)

1. Basic Functions

The Assistant Manager (Mechanical) will be required to:

Ensure proper management of projects within the Generation Section by


coordinating, implementing and monitoring plans and objectives relating to the
resources falling under his responsibility.

Lead teams of professional, specialist, technical and administrative


subordinates within the sections falling under his responsibility.

Establish control standards and procedures to ensure efficient and effective


functioning and safety in electrical power generation and associated
mechanical and combustion systems.

Act under the general guidance of management and as directed by superiors.

Duties

Generation Projects

Perform duties of coordinator or project manager as required by higher


management on major generation projects, including all associated
mechanical systems such as fuel processing, combustion, steam generation,
emissions control, rotating plant and auxiliaries.

Carry out research studies on electrical generation systems and associated


mechanical and combustion plant.
Design systems and advise higher management related to electrical power
generation and associated mechanical and combustion systems.

Prepare specifications and contract documents and to submit tender


adjudication reports for electrical power generation equipment, auxiliaries and
associated mechanical and combustion systems.

Inspect site work and supervision of electrical power generation projects.

Maintain technical liaison with suppliers, consultants with other relevant


specialists.

Commission equipment, auxiliaries and systems related to electrical power


generation, and associated mechanical projects.

Issue interim, taking-over and final certificates to suppliers of works, services


and materials.

Keep proper and timely records related to the projects falling under his
responsibility.

2.2 Resource utilisation

Ensure that performance standards by all personnel under his responsibility


are consistently maintained.

Stay current and knowledgeable on latest developments in the field of


electrical power generation and associated mechanical and combustion
systems.

Direct subordinates in meeting their work objectives.

Train, monitor and appraise performance of subordinates.

Locate and correct malfunctions in electrical power generation equipment,


auxiliaries and systems; organise and direct maintenance and repairs of
electrical power generation equipment, auxiliaries and mechanical plant and
combustion systems.

Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.


2.3 Customer Satisfaction

Ensure that replies to all type of internal and external communication are
delivered in a short period as determined by the Corporation.

Ensure high quality and standard of work and service throughout.

Ensure collaboration and dialogue with colleagues and other professionals


within the Corporation and with other entities outside the Corporation for the
effective and efficient execution of duties.

2.4 On Call Duties

Be available when necessary after normal working hours and would have to
form part of a standby roster to ensure that supply interruptions are attended
around the clock.

Reports to the Manager (Projects) or delegate

4. Qualifications

Recognised degree in mechanical engineering.

5. Experience

Minimum of 5 years experience in generation operations and maintenance


and projects.
