Business Contexts

2000-2009 at Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, California Division Pharmacy, Analytical Research:
The California Division operates scores of outpatient pharmacies, filling over 20M prescriptions annually. Pharmacy Analytical
Research is concerned with cost-containment as well as efficacy studies. I was involved in analyses of drug costs and utilization, with data
originating in Kaiser’s EMR/EHR among other sources. Both directly and via enduser reporting systems, I provided management information
at all levels, as well as actionable detail for drug education pharmacists’ use when consulting providers about best prescribing practices for
cost-of-goods containment (for example, generics vs brand when outcomes are equivalent, order of medication trial least to most costly, etc.).

1998-2000 at Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, Diablo Region, Business Strategy and Finance:
Business Strategy and Finance (BS&F) provides information to senior management to help run a cost-effective hospitals business.
Working closely with a clinical operations managing pharmacist, I built a system to analyze prescription drug utilization and cost reporting for
the Region [this led to my transfer to my next company position, described above]

1993-1998 at The Permanente Medical Group, Northern California, Operations Support Services
The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG) of Northern California is the physician-managed arm of the Kaiser Permanente Medical
Care Program’s integrated care delivery model. Operations Support Services provides diverse quantitative analyses for use by physician-
managers at all levels to understand, forecast, and plan for best care delivery to Kaiser member-patients. I was involved in building reporting
systems and otherwise providing data concerning access to care (eg minimization of time to get appointments, etc.), patient satisfaction,
forecasting, and other assignments.
