ABBREVIATED DIALLING

1 OBJECTIVE OF THE SHEET

Alcatel’s E10 system offers all subscriber lines the possibility of using an abbreviated dialling service
by assigning a specialised category to the subscriber.
The tests described in this sheet involve checking the operation of the service and the associated MMC
commands.

ABBREVIATED DIALLING

2 CONDITIONS - RESOURCES
The following is available on site:
- Output of the routing and exchange analysis,
- Four standard subscriber lines and sets.
• A is the subscriber who has the abbreviated dialling service
• B, C and D are the called subscribers for A.
Interrogate the characteristics of the test subscribers:
ABOIN:
ND= (DNA) + (DNB) + DNC) + (DND);
The service operates from any type of set, whether it is DTMF or pulse selection, provided that the
corresponding service codes have been provided for and created.
The service codes given for sets which do not use the * and hash keys may also function from KLA-
category lines and DTMF sets.
To activate, deactivate or cancel the service use the following documentation: Operating data, oper-
ator sheet.
SABLA and OABLA function while the service is being checked.
Check the results during each test.

3 CONDUCT OF THE TEST

3.1 Assigning the Service

The operator assigns the "abbreviated dialling" category to subscriber A in the following way:
ABOMO:
ND= (DNA),CAT=NAn;

3.2 Registering the Abbreviated Code

a) Registration of the abbreviated code by the subscriber:
From subscriber A, register B’s number in abbreviated form
LH DT CODE AN * DNB # IND RH
LH DT CODE AN DNB IND RH
LH lift handset
DT dial tone
CODE service code
IND indication tone
AN abbreviated number (AN1)
DNB subscriber B’s directory number
• Check that the abbreviated code has been registered: the correct indication tone is received.
Interrogate subscriber A’s charge counter:
TAXIN :
ND= (DNA);
b) Registration of the abbreviated code by MMC command:
Using the NABEN MMC command, assign another abbreviated code to subscriber A for C’s direc-
tory number:
NABEN
ND= (DNA),NDC=AN2- (DNC);
Note : Replacement by overwriting may or may not be authorised depending on the specifi-
cations.
a) Overwriting authorised:
In this case, any additional registering of telephone numbers which use the same
abbreviated number deletes the number which was previously registered.
b) Overwriting not authorised:
In this case, any additional registering of a telephone number which uses the same
abbreviated number is rejected.

3.3 Interrogation
3.3.1 Verification by the Subscriber

Subscriber A interrogates the telephone number registered for an abbreviated number as follows:
LH DT CODE AN * DN # IND RH

ABBREVIATED DIALLING

LH DT CODE AN DN IND RH
LH lift handset
DT dial tone
CODE service code
IND indication tone
AN abbreviated number
DN directory number
- Check that the abbreviated code has been registered correctly: the correct indication tone is re-
ceived.
3.3.2 Verification by the Operator

The abbreviated codes which previously registered are checked using the NABIN MMC command:
NABIN :
ND= (DNA);
- Check that the abbreviated codes previously registered and the directory numbers assigned are
printed in the correct order.

3.4 Use
From subscriber A’s set, call subscriber B using the abbreviated number, in the following way:
Abbreviated number with prefix
LH DT *AN
or depending on the length of the prefix (1 or 2)
LH DT **AN
AN abbreviated number
Abbreviated number with suffix
LH DT AN*
or depending on the length of the prefix (1 or 2)
LH DT AN**
LH DT AN
- Check that subscriber B’s set rings and that A receives the callback tone.
- Subscriber B answers, check that the call is set up.
Release the call.
Interrogate subscriber A’s charge counter:
TAXIN :
ND= (DNA);
- Compare the result output with the initial subscriber interrogationand check that the charge counter
has been incremented according to the local charging plan.
Repeat the test by calling A from C, with the abbreviated number having been registered using the
MMC command.
- Check that the service is functioning correctly for the abbreviated codes which were registered using
the MMC command.
3
- Check that subscriber A receives the busy tone if he attempts to call an abbreviated code AN .

3.5 Modification
Repeat the procedure for registering the AN1 abbreviated code by allocating subscriber D’s directory
number (DND) as follows:
LH DT CODE AN1 * DND IND RH
LH DT CODE AND DND IND RH
LH lift handset
DT dial tone
CODE service code
IND1 indication tone
AN abbreviated number
DND subscriber D’s directory number
- Check that the new abbreviated code has been registered; the correct indication tone is received.
1
- Check that the AN abbreviated dialling is now routed to line D.
- Interrogate subscriber A’s charge counter:
TAXIN :
ND= (DNA);

3.6 Compatibility with Restriction Services

a) Prefix or access code not assigned.
Repeat the procedure for registering the AN3 abbreviated code using a directory number whose
prefix or access code has not been assigned (refer to the exchange analysis output for the unused
prefix).
LH DT CODE AN3 * DN # IND RH
DIAL LH DT CODE AN3 DN IND RH
LH lift handset
DT dial tone
CODE service code
IND3 indication tone
AN abbreviated number
DN directory number
• Check that subscriber A receives the indication tone (or a specialised announcement) indi-
cating that the service has been rejected.
b) Restriction of the subscriber call.
Modify subscriber A’s discrimination by assigning an SRn restriction category :
ABOMO :
ND= (DNA),TY=SRn;
Repeat the procedure for registering the AN3 abbreviated code using a directory number which
corresponds to a route which contains an identical SRn category (refer to the routing and exchange
analysis output).
LH DT CODE AN3 * DN # IND RH
LH DT CODE AN3 * DN IND RH

DT dial tone
CODE service code
IND3 indication tone
AN abbreviated number
DN directory number
• Check that subscriber A receives the correct indication tone (or a specialised announcement)
indicating that the service has been rejected.

3.7 Cancellation
From subscriber A, enter the sequence which cancels the AN1abbreviated code which is now routed
to subscriber D and AN2,AN3
LH DT CODE AN1 # IND RH
LH DT CODE AN1 IND RH
CODE service code
LH lift handset
DT dial tone
IND1 indication tone
AN abbreviated number
Note : Replacement by overwriting may or may not be authorised depending on the specifi-
cations.
a) Overwriting authorised:
In this case, any new cancellation is accepted.
b) Overwriting not authorised:
In this case, any cancellation of an unregistered number is connected to a congestion
tone.
- Check that subscriber A receives the correct tone which indicates that the service has been cancelled.
1
- Subscriber A calls the number which was previously registered for subscriber D via the AN abbre-
viated code. Check that this code has been overwritten.
- Check that subscriber A receives the correct indication tone (or as pecialised announcement) in the
event of an attempt to cancel an AN3 abbreviated code which does not exist.
- Interrogate subscriber A’s charge counter:
TAXIN :
ND= (DNA);

3.8 Call Charging

Refer to the tests carried out to check call charging.

3.9 Service Withdrawal

The operator withdraws the abbreviated dialling service and the discrimination which was previously
assigned in the following way:
