The competent teacher will apply tools for enhancing personal professional growth
and productivity; will use technology in communicating, collaborating, conducting
research, and solving problems and will promote equitable, ethical, and legal use of
computer/technology resources

1. Write a paragraph explaining your knowledge and understanding of the standard—put the

standard into your own words.

The standard wants me to understand that technology has many different uses in education. It is

important that in addition to using different types of technology in the classroom, that students

understand how to safely and ethically navigate the Internet and other technological resources.

As a model for my students, I need to actively demonstrate “how to use technology in

communicating, collaborating, conducting research, and solving problems.”

2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the

standard.

The artifact I used, a video demonstration of my instruction, displays my ability to “identify

computer and other related technology resources for facilitating lifelong learning and emerging

roles of the learner and the educator in engaged, collaborative learning environments.” Through

the use of technology in my instruction, I was able to be resourceful and engage students in a

lesson about weather. Through activating background knowledge, students were able to thinking

about the different weather systems that are seen throughout the seasons. I believe that students

are able to internalize their learning when they are exposed to it in multiple ways. Through the

use of technology, I am able to provide students with many different resources and ways to

access information.

your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.

As the artifact is an example of my practice, I think that being able to reflect on my teaching

allows me to evaluate the ways into which I am using technology in the classroom. Having video

footage of my teaching allows me to really look at how students are responding to my teaching

and then in turn, how I can better my instruction to make it the most effective.

4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and Learn in a

Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.

Not all students have the same access to technology outside of the classroom. Incorporating

technology into the classroom, and giving students the opportunities to explore, learn, and create

allows students who may not have those experiences at home. Additionally, being resourceful

demonstrates to my students that importance of inquiry.
