 College organised a workshop on
EQ@Workplace ± using emotional intelligence for upward
mobility on the corporate ladder.

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is increasingly relevant to

organisational and people development, because the EI
principles provides a new way to understand and assess
people¶s behaviour, management styles, attitudes, inter-
personal skills, and potential.

EI is that quality in a person that endears him/her to others.

It is a synergistic combination of two "intelligences" ±
intra-personal and inter-personal intelligences.

Success requires more than IQ (Intelligence Quotient),

Ô

which has been the traditional measure of intelligence.

There are people who are academically brilliant, and yet,

are socially and inter-personally inept. Despite possessing
  !
a high IQ rating, success does not follow.

Olympia College recently organised a workshop by GK Lim on "EQ@Workplace ± Using Emotional Intelligence"
at the Kuala Lumpur campus on August 21 to highlight the concept of EI and to show students how to acquire this
useful skill.

Lim touched on areas such as positive responses to negative programming, the anger ritual ± how to manage your
anger and the solutions i.e. awareness, cause, recognition and choice, as well as by using the "Sedona" method
which means to "let go".

He also covered areas such as: how to manage yourself, self-image, how to be assertive and not aggressive, and the
informal leader ± the ultimate strategy to earn other people¶s STAR (Support, Trust, Admiration, Respect) by using
the "ABCD" method which means to go "Above and Beyond the Call of Duty" and Creating a Right brain
experience (CARE).

He also spoke on how to awaken the right brain, to be more creative and to solve problems. He also touched on the
physiological aspects of stress management and conducted mental relaxation exercises with the participants to
educate them how to manage and reduce stress.

It was an interactive workshop whereby the participants participated in discussions, group activities, asked questions
and shared their perspectives.

Lim is the President of HRD Gateway, a 40,000 member international non-profit organisation dedicated to
excellence in human resource management. He is also a training consultant in the area of consultative/solution-
centric selling skills, key account management, negotiation, persuasion and influencing skills, managerial
excellence, 360 degree leadership, stress management and mind/intuition enhancement.

He holds an MBA from the American Heritage University of Southern California and is currently working on his
DBA from Palawan State University, Philippines.

Lim had had consulting and training assignments in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Philippines,
Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, United Arab Emirates and China. He has also appeared on TV2 (KL), TVM
