Analyze learners:

General Characteristics

Number of Students: 30

Level (grade or age): 11th

Gender: 23 Male-7 Female

Exceptionalities - adhd, hearing, etc: There are two boys with eyeglasses.

Cultural/Ethnic/or other types of Diversity: All the students are from south part of

Turkey.

Other: All the students from the high income families.

Entry Competencies

What skills do they have already: They know the basic principles of light, Snell’s

Law, mirrors and image formation by the mirrors.

They need to review: They should review the Snell’s Law by using the prisms.

Learning Styles:

Visual (% of students): 70

Auditory (hearing/verbal): 20

Kinesthetic (hands on/physical): 10

State Objectives
The 11th grade of Toros Fen Lisesi Students should be able to:

a) Determine whether the focal length of a lens in increased or decreased as a

result of a change in the curvature of its surfaces or in the index of refraction of the material

of which the lens is made or the medium in which it is immersed in the given examples.

b) Determine by ray tracing the location of the image of a real object located

inside or outside the focal point of the lens, and state whether the resulting image is upright or

inverted, real or virtual in the given examples and in an experimental setup.

c) Use the thin lens equation to relate the object distance, image distance, and

focal length for a lens, and determine the image size in terms of the object size while solving

problems.

about 85 percent of them can do these.

Select Media, Materials, & Methods

A handout paper is prepared and will be distributed to students before the lecturing

and let them read and take notes from the handout. While lecturing, a PowerPoint slide show

must be used which is prepared also. After the lecturing a quiz will be distributed. A basic

experiment setup taken to the class and wants the students guess how the image can change in

the given situations and asks some of them to plan a situation and show if it works. Students

work individually. Only in the experiment part of the lesson they can work in groups. I should

use questioning techniques during power point presentation to avoid one channel

communication. The teacher will evaluate the group guesses for the experiment setups.

Utilize Media, Materials, & Methods

I am going to use a handout which has illustrations and basic descriptions about to

subject and it should be distributed to students before the lecturing if possible one day before

and ask them to read and take notes about the topics.

I am also going to use a power point slide show as the many of the students are visual

learners in the power point slide show there will be some color photos and many figures. I

will ask students question. The school has many lap-top computers and each class has

projection machines

I will distribute a quiz sheet and in the quiz sheet there will some simple true false

questions.

I am also going to use an experiment setup which is composed of a diverging lens, a

converging lens, a curtain and a rod which has two different color lamps on the edges. After

the lecturing I will give some sudations and asks the students prepare some situations and

apply it to the setup.

Require Learner Participation

I will ask direct questions to the students and wants them to answer the questions. I

ask students to prepare a situation and do not tell what will be the results and ask the students

to discuss the situation and ask some of them to apply that situation to the setups.

Evaluate and Revise

Evaluate student performance:

I will make a quiz and while the discussions of the situations I will evaluate the

students and how much I make them to fulfill the objectives of the lesson. If they do not fulfill

enough there will be problem about the media or my instruction. So firstly I will revise the

handout and the slide show. If my instruction method is wrong I will change it.

Evaluate media components:

I will evaluate the media by using questions directly to the media and I try to find out

if it worked or not. Also I ask the students write a critic about the media if it is boring or

exciting, etc. After doing all these I will make differences or select any other kind of Medias

and materials for the instruction.

Evaluate instructor performance:

I will ask any of my peers to evaluate me while I was instructing and I distribute a

checklist to students and ask them to fill it. After all doing these I decide whether my

instruction good or poor. I try to improve myself about the topic and the instruction.

Advantages of the Model

• Projects complement the current learning unit

• Creativity; you need use your creativity while doing appropriate selections.

• Revise chance; you may revise the procedure and make appropriate changes

according to the critics after the lesson.

• One-on-one interest; you need to make one-on-one relation between students to

analyze them easily.

Disadvantages of the Model

• Time consuming

• You have to make research about learners and methods, media and materials. This

means that you need extra time.
