League
SemiFinals

Fifth seeded South Dakota State used an early 13-0 run to take the lead from No. 4 seed IPFW in
quarterfinal matchup at The Summit League Championships in Sioux Falls, and then held off a late
Mastodon assault to hang on for an 85-75 win in front of 6,436 fans at the Sioux Falls Arena.
The Jackrabbits improve to 19-11 with their third win over the Mastodons this season, and advanced
to play top-seeded Oakland in the tournament semifinals. Unfortunately, after a hard fought battle the
Jacks could not tame the Golden Grizzles in the semifinals and fell 110-90.
Nate Wolters led the Jackrabbits with 30 points in the win, adding seven rebounds and five assists.
Dale Moss scored a season-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Clint Sargent finished
with 14 points. Jordan Dykstra scored 10 points in his first-ever postseason game, and added five re-
bounds before fouling out with under a minute to play.
Frank Gaines led IPFW with 21 points and added a game-high 12 rebounds to complete the double-
double. Ben Botts and Trey McCorkle both added 16 points and John Peckinpaugh 11 points in the loss.
IPFW scored first on its first possession, but the Jacks answered with the 13-0 run, prompting not
one, but two timeouts from the Mastodon bench within the first three and a half minutes of the game.
The Jacks would extend their lead to as many as 20 points in the first half, before IPFW cut it to 43-
29 at halftime.
The Mastodons would continue chipping away at the lead, cutting it to as few as four points on three
occasions, but the Jacks made their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

* Clint Sargent finished his SDSU career with 1,505 points,

which is fifth all-time!

* Sargent is the SDSU all-time leader for career three pointers

The South Dakota State men’s track and field team was selected second and the women third by
The Summit League’s head coaches in the outdoor preseason poll.
“We are excited about the outdoor season as there as some events unique to outdoor that we have
some quality individuals,” said head coach Rod DeHaven. “We are also adding some individuals who
didn’t compete indoors that will definitely score some points. Hosting the conference meet in Sioux Falls
will also be a slight advantage, not complete home field advantage but an edge that may result in a
few extra points here and there.”

The SDSU men’s golf team finished in eighth place and compiled a team 54-hole score of 874 (291-
292-291) and women’s golf team moved up two spots to finish in fourth place as it concluded play in
the Jackrabbit Invitational at the Primm Valley Golf Club Desert Course. The Jackrabbits’ 54-hole score
is the fourth best in school history, while their 36-hole score of 583 is the fifth best in school history.
Hudson Carpenter led the Jackrabbit men with a score of 214 (73-71-70) finishing tied for 18th,
while his 54-hole score of 214 is tied for the seventh best in school history.
Morgan Fitts led the women with a score of 224 (74-79-71) and finished tied for 10th. Her final-
round 71 is the lowest round in history and tied for the lowest score in relation to par. Her 54-hole
score of 224 is the second lowest in school history, while her 36-hole score of 153 is tied for 10th lowest.

A sweep of St. Joseph’s highlighted the midway point of the tennis team’s yearly trip to Florida with
the men winning 4-3 and the women’s winning 5-2.
The men swept the singles matches from #2-5 with all coming in straight sets. #2 Jamie Dash and
#4 Chris Baron each won by the count of 6-4, 7-5, #2 Carl Lundberg was victorious 6-0, 6-2 and #5

the Hawks #3-6 singles players. #3 Bryna Nasenbeny was successful over Maggie Mullaney 6-4, 6-2,
while #4 Natalia Medina won 6-2, 6-2. #5 Megan McDougall also won by identical scores of 6-3, 6-3
