Workshop on Characterisation of Photovoltaic Materials and Devices • 13 October 2010

About the Workshop

Next generation photovoltaic technologies, such as polymer/organic photovoltaics (OPV),
Dye-sensitised solar cell (DSSC), and inorganic thin film solar cells offer promise for the
realization of a low cost, printable, portable, and flexible renewable energy source.
Although the power conversion efficiencies of such technologies have been improving
steadily, the fundamentals of processes such as photo-charge carrier generation,
recombination and charge transport are not fully understood and are under debate. The
workshop is dedicated to the characterisation tools that will allow for better understanding
of fundamental processes responsible for power conversion from the solar light. The main
goal of the workshop is to introduce and expand upon the key techniques involved in PV
characterisation to local PV community including Research Institutes, Industries,
Universities and all interested parties. Invited speakers from Japan, Research Institutes
and Universities from Singapore will present and share their knowledge on the latest
developments in different characterisation capabilities for PV materials and devices. This
will include ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy, time resolved microwave
conductivity, Terahertz spectroscopy, impedance spectroscopy, transient photoconductivity,
and photoluminescence imaging. This workshop will create an opportunity for the PV
community to interact, and learn about the latest technical progresses in this rapidly
expanding field.
