2011 Educare Ministry

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The Educare Ministry at Cathedral International in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, is pleased to
announce the availability of scholarships for the year 2011-2012. The scholarships are awarded
to those seeking FIRST TIME ASSOCIATE, BACCALAUREATE or GRADUATE
DEGREES who are members of Cathedral International and who have shown their commitment
to God, to the various ministries in and outside of Cathedral International and to their education.

Scholarships will be awarded in the following amounts: $250.00, $500.00, $750.00 and $1000.00. They will be based
on the following criteria:
1. The student must be a member of Cathedral International.
2. The student must be an active member of a ministry at Cathedral International or his/her college campus
community and must submit as part of the application an evaluation form completed by the Ministry
Head in whose ministry he/she participates. In cases where he/she is away at college and is NOT active
in campus ministry, a second essay must be submitted as indicated in the directions.
3. The student must complete a typed essay based on a selected topic.
4. The student must submit an OFFICIAL transcript (with a raised seal) directly from the high school or
college/university he/she attends. The transcript must be postmarked by the application deadline. The
transcript DOES NOT have to accompany the application.
5. The student must complete the scholarship application and submit it without error or omission. Upon
completion of the application, the student should place it in an envelope and mail it to the following

Please note that, for the 2011-2012 award year, Ministry participation or community service will be REQUIRED
of ALL applicants. Acceptable forms of service include, but are not limited to, the following: mentoring,
tutoring, assisting in a soup kitchen, volunteering in a nursing home, volunteering at the church while home on
break, etc. All service must be documented, and it CANNOT be a service for which you are compensated (e.g.,
Work-Study, part-time job, etc.). If you have questions about fulfilling the service requirement for the 2011-
2012 award year, or if you have questions as to whether your service is acceptable, please submit them in writing
to the Educare Ministry or email them to educare@thecathedral.org

(2) Describe an adverse circumstance that you have experienced on campus (either high school
or college) and how you applied your spiritual foundation to overcome the circumstance.

(3) What do you think God has destined your purpose to be in life?

(4) Expand on this statement: “God’s work in my life has been particularly visible in the doors
that he has opened for me.”

Please review the following questions and choose one to respond to in a typed essay of no fewer
than 350 words, but no more than 400 words. Please adhere to the subject matter and use
scripture, where appropriate, to reinforce your point.

1. How have you been a Christian communicator? Provide examples of how you exemplify
the role of a Christian on your campus.

2. What does it mean to be a Christian in a secular world on a college campus (for example,
in relationships, entertainment/social life, money management, etc.)?

3. Why do you feel that the Lord led you to attend the college you are currently attending?

A typed essay responding to one of the questions above must be included in your
package to be considered for the scholarship. Make sure that it is clearly labeled
(2nd Essay) and that the topic chosen is clearly identified.
