Work Experience:
I did my work experience at Homebase as a sales assistant and have been working there from Dec 2006 to date.
From this job I have learnt the importance of good customer service, and how it can be used effectively in all cases of
jobs that are similar, and have made a large number of friends. Before Homebase I worked voluntarily under my
uncle, a restaurateur. Here, I assisted in finance and related business calculations, in addition to communicating with
different types of customers. I found this valuable experience for any job where I am needed on a daily basis to
interact with people, such as a teacher, where I will have to deal with children from all types of backgrounds and
cultures.
In June 2010, I participated in the Student Associates Scheme (SAS), in which I spent three weeks at a local
secondary school in order to discover what teaching was like and gain valuable classroom experience working
alongside seasoned teachers, as well as teaching a chosen class of students by the final week. This scheme opened
my eyes to the more professional side of the job market and the 9 till 5 lifestyle that many lead, and one that I will
too one day. It also gave me the opportunity to interact with people of all ages and cultures, much like my previous
experiences, and to help young students decide upon their future careers through advice of my own path through the
education system. This was done primarily with a mentee who I was assigned to during the scheme, and also at
presentations, spread out during the placement, to certain years e.g. Year 8, Year 10.

Additional Information:
• received an academic scholarship of 50% school fees to study at Emanuel School
• currently volunteering as a local community police officer for Ealing council where my main responsibilities are
admin related: I am positioned at the front desk, so am the first of a possible line of staff that a
customer will interact with. I then normally have to address their queries and fill in many related
forms from lost property to the registration of foreign students. I also am responsible for the
maintaining of the front desk at all times, helping the other police with minor issues, contacting
related services to the inquiries and controlling the people entering and leaving the building.
• participated in Young Enterprise in which we had an excellent gaming event idea. Young Enterprise increased
many of my attributes, such as responsibility and leadership skills (being a design director) and also teamwork
• took part in paired reading scheme with a fellow pupil once a week where I helped a young child increase their
confidence in reading which I found very satisfying as I like to help others in difficult situations
• very enthusiastic footballer and spent quite a lot of time playing football at school and for a small club which has
its own league; was an integral part of my school football & cricket teams
• currently captain the Imperial Abacus and play for the ArabSoc Football team; also like playing cricket, basketball
and badminton in spare time
