A FBE & Coating Materials

Cracking or disbonding of the (FBE) coating on the outside radius of the

bent bars visible to a person with normal or corrected vision shall be 09-SAMSS-106

considered cause for rejection of the coated steel reinforcing bars. Sec. III.B
(ASTM A775, Sec. 8.3.2)

All damaged coating due to fabrication or handling shall be repaired with 09-SAMSS-106

patching material. (ASTM A775, Sec. 11.2) Sec. III.B

When the extent of damaged coating exceeds 2 % of

the surface area of the coated steel reinforcing bar in any 0.3–m 09-SAMSS-106

(1–ft) length, the coated bar should be rejected. Sec. III.B
(ASTM A775, Sec. XI.3.8)

Patching material compatible with the coating shall be supplied along 09-SAMSS-106
A4
with the coated reinforcing steel. (ASTM A775, Sec. 5.4) Sec. III.B

Repair of damaged coating shall be done in accordance with the

09-SAMSS-106
A5 patching material manufacturer's written recommendations.

All systems for handling coated steel reinforcing bars shall have padded
contact areas. All bundling bands shall be padded or suitable banding
shall be used to prevent damage to the coating. All bundles of coated 09-SAMSS-106

steel shall be lifted with a strong back, spreader bar, multiple supports, or Sec. III.B
a platform bridge to prevent bar to bar abraison. The bars or bundles
shall not be dropped or dragged. (ASTM A775, Sec. 15.1)

B Joint Sealants & Joint Filler Strips

Joint caulking compounds shall show no curdling or jelling in the
