Animal Farm Essay

“All animals are equal but some are more equal than
other ”-unequal or more equal?
Since Old Major died and farm became Manor Farm to Animal Farm, all animals
became equal and also they are all working for themselves, not for the human.
But every animal had different job(work) to do. Most of them were just working.
But for the pigs, it was different. As a ‘Brain Workers’ of Animal Farm.

“The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others.
With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the
leadership”(pg45. Ch.3)

Pigs didn’t work since Manor Farm became Animal Farm. They were the leader
of all the other animals in the farm and directed them to work. But this didn’t
mean that pigs are special. Still, they had a same working time, food and sleeping
place.

Everything seems working well or even better than before (when Mr.Jones was
running the farm.) Pigs (Napoleon, Snowball and squealer) came up with 7
commandments and some sentences.

“THE SEVEN COMMANDMENTS

1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.

2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
3. No animal shall wear clothes.
4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.
5. No animal shall drink alcohol
6. No animal shall kill any other animal
7. All animals are equal” (pg43,Ch.4)

What we have to know about this seven commandments is that everything

they(animals) mentioned is what human do and especially, for 7th
commandment (All aniamals are equal), later on, it will change.

Soon, things started to change. The first thing that changed was the food they
eat. According to the seven commandments, all the animals should eat same as
what other animals eat. But for 3 pigs, it was little different. They actually stole
all the fresh milks and apples just because they are the brain workers. At this
point, animal should felt something is wrong but the reason why they didn’t is
because Sqealer was there (who’s really good at convincing other animals like
carsalesman). Squealer makes his debut when he was convincing other animals
to think that the pigs are eating those for other animals.
“”Comrades!” he cried.”You do not imagine………Many of us actually dislike
milk and apples…Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our
health……………We pigs are brainworkers. The whole magagement and
organisation of this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching
over your welfare………Surely there is no one among you who wants to see
Jones come back?””(pg52, Ch.3)

Most of the time, just by mentioning Jones’ name when hes convincing
something to other animals, surely they didn’t want him back so they changed
their mind and believe squealer’s words.

“Now if there was one thing that the animals were conpletely certain of, it
was that they did not want Jones back”(pg52, Ch3)

This can be the first thing that shows that it’s unequal between pigs and other
animals or pigs are more equal than other animals in Animal Farm. And There
were 9 newborn puppies, as soon as they can live witout their mom, Napoleon
took them with the reason of education. As time went by, there was a war
between human and animals in Animal Farm. After that, Snowball and
Napoleon start fighing on each other no matter what they are doing. When they
are giving a speeches to other animals about windmill, before vote, Napoleon
came up with those 9 puppies which are now grown-ups.

Napoleon kicked snowball out of the farm and this doesn’t make sense because
whatever goes upon 4 legs are suppose to be their comrade and now, Napoleon
is kicking his friend out of the Animal Farm, the place that all animals are equal.
After snowball got kicked out, Napoleon decided to build windmill. Now, they
didn’t even vote for it but Napoleon decided without asking or talk about it with
other animals. Things are changing.

“Napoleon, with the dogs following him……He announced that from now
on the Sunday-morning Meetings would come to an end…….all questions
relating to the working of the farm would be settled by a special
committee of pigs, presided over by himself…….there would be no more
debates.”(pg68, Ch5)

So since Napoleon came up with 9 dogs there is no more debates which means
no more right to choose or debate for any other animals besides pigs.

“Throughout the spring and summer they worked a sixty-hour week, and
in Qugust Napoleon announced that there would be work on Sunday
afternoons as wel. This work was stricktly voluntary, but any animal who
absented himself from it would have his rations reduced bt
half”(pg73,Ch6)

Now things are getting more unequal (or pigs are getting more equal that other
animals.) They(pigs) also moved into farmhouse and engaging in trade with the
neighnoring farms which is against the seven commandments. And those 3 pigs
are the only animals that are doing this in Animal Farm.

“It was about this time that the pigs suddenly moved into the farmhouse
and took up their residence there...It was absolutely necessary, he said,
that the pigs, who were the brains of the farm, should have a quiet place to
work in. It was also more suited to the dignity of the Leader (for of late he
had taken to speaking of Napoleon under the title of "Leader") to live in a
house than in a mere sty. Nevertheless, some of the animals were disturbed
when they heard that the pigs not only took their meals in the kitchen and
used the drawing-room as a recreation room, but also slept in the
beds.“(pg79, Ch6)

Since windmill broke down, animals worked like a slave.

“They were always cold and usually hungry as well.”(pg84, Ch7)

But do you think ‘They’ in that sentence includes pigs too? No. After
that(windmill broke and all animals are starving), they had a meeting that
several animals confessed something that’s related to Jones or Snowball which
was almost forced by 9 dogs. And all the animals that confessed got killed upon
Napoleon’s orders. What you have to think about this part is that in seven
commandments, there is a part saying no animal shall kill any other animal. But
now what ? pigs are breaking the commandments but no one is talking about it
or no one can bring up this topic for some reasons.

“A few days later,……some of the animals remembered-or thought they

remembered-that the Sixth Commandment decreed “No animal shall kill
any other animal.” And though no one cared to mention it in the hearing
of the pigs or the dogs, it was felt that the killings which had taken place
did not square with this.”(pg98,Ch8)

Now it’s becoming more obvious that pigs, especially, Napoleon is taking
credits for every successful achievements. And be more like dictator, not a
leader.

We can’t find anything from past now or why they start this animal farm. It’s all
changed. No more animalism or freedom. They are not working for themselves
anymore. They are working for pigs. Pigs are taking everything from them. So
eventually, it’s same as when Mr.Jones was here or maybe even worse.
Everything is becoming same as before and animal started to find out there is
no point of doing this. Still Napoleon is saying about Animalism but it seems
like only old Benjamin remember everything. When human visited Manor Farm
(Animal Farm became Manor Farm now which means there is no more Animal
Farm) Animals couldn’t find who’s who because everyone was walking with 2
legs, with clothes on and drinking or eating food of human.

“Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No
question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures
outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man
again; but already it was impossible to say which was which. “(pg139,Ch10)
Everything was gone. No future, no hope. There was only one thing left on the
wall saying

“ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN
OTHERS” (pg133.Ch10)

The Seven Commandments that became 5 Commandments and only one at the end. It
shows how things changed.
