therefore not a perfect representation of Sanskrit sounds. The best way
to learn this Suktam is to listen to the Learn Sri Suktam tape. This
guide is meant as a support material for the cassette.

ñ like n in pinch The “Aspirates”

p like p in soap In Sanskrit, certain sounds are referred to as the “aspirates” because
ph like ph in up hill they are pronounced with an audible expulsion of the breath. These
sounds are represented in transliteration as kh, gh, ch, jh, ph, bh,
r rolled like a Spanish or Italian “r” th, ÷h, dh and ýh. In order to derive the maximum benefit from
s like s in sun chanting Sanskrit, it is vital to pronounce these sounds correctly.
þ sometimes like s in sun, sometimes like “sya” sound
ÿ like rsh in marsh Rhythm and placing stress in Sanskrit Words
t like t in top The vowels a, i, u, and ® are known as “short” vowels in Sanskrit.
The vowels ˜, ai, au, ë, í, Ì, and ¨ are “long” vowels.
÷ like rt in heart
th like t h in fat hat When chanting Sanksrit, long vowels are held twice as long as short
÷h like rt h in heart happy vowels. Also, whenever a short vowel is followed by two
consecutive consonants, that syllable is sressed. For example, “suva®na
v like v in love, sometimes like w in world rajatasraj˜m” the eight syllables are pronounced as USUUUSUS,
y like y in yes where “U” is an unstressed syllable and “S” is a stressed syllable.
This rule holds true even if the short vowel occurs at the end of
*t, th, d, dh, and n should be pronounced with the tongue placed one word and the two consonants form the beginning of the next

Sacrificial thread of Muja grass beautify your shoulder.” In this way, you successfully accomplished the mission of Ramachandra.”

"The son of Siva and delighter of Kesari; "Bringing the life saving drug (Mrta-Sanjivani), you revived Laksmana (to life);

"In the minutest form you presented yourself before Sita; "Sage Sanaka, Gods like Brahma and other munis;

"Evil spirits like ghosts and goblins cannot come near a person; "If anybody and everybody worships you and entertains any desire;

"Your might and glory were supreme all over the four ages (Sathya yuga, Treta yuga,
"All the bodily diseases are expelled and all pains removed; Dwapara yuga, and Kali yuga);
If one makes constant japa of your name, O brave Hanuman.” Your prowess and talents are well-known and shine throughout the world.”

mana-krama-bachana dhy˜na-jÌ-l˜vë asura-nikandana r˜ma-dul˜rë
"Sri Hanuman releases one from all crises; "You protect the devotees and the sages;

"One who recites this (Hanumanachalisa) one hundred times;
One is liberated from bondage and experiences supreme bliss.”

jah˜-janma-hari bhakta-kah˜yí
"At the time of death, your devotee will reach the abode of Rama; "One who reads this Hanumanachalsa;
