LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

WEEK 7

What I learnt was that social interactionism has strong link with constructivism. For
example; we should see our students as a whole person to involved them in learning.
Differently from constructivism and behaviorism, the supporters of social interactionism
claim that children born into a social world, and learning occurs through interaction with
other people. By means of these interactions we make our own sense of the world. We
can also learn a language by using it to interact meaningfully with other people. Vygotsky
thinks that language is very important in interacting other people not just speech but
signs and symbols as well. By the help of the language, culture can be
transmitted,thinking develops and learning occurs. Vygotsky claims that learning should
not be broken down into small subcomponents and taught as discrete items and skills,
but meaning should constitude the central aspect of any unit of of study. Any unit of
study should be given in all its complexity rather than skills and knowledge being
presented in isolation. The concept of mediation is the centre of both vygotsky and
feuersyein’s view. This term bases on interaction with a person who has more knowledge
than you have and his or her helping or guiding you to enhance your learnnıg by selecting
and shaping the learning expriences. Effective learning can occur only when you interact
with people with different levels of skill and knowledge. Children have potential and as a
teacher we should help them we should guide them to reach their best way to reach their
dreams. This can be identified zone of proximal development. I+1 is really important. The
input sould not be too easy because student cannot develop themselves should not be
too difficult because they cannot understand it. The input should be just a little beyond
the students capacity to improve themselves. Feuerstein turn theory into practice. He
concerns that immigrant children appeared to be mentally retarded and incapable of
learning at school.he studies with his co-worker to find ways to construct methods of
providing them with skills and strategies to overcome their learning difficulties and to
become effective learners. With true strategy you can make your students be aware of
their real capacity. No one can ever achieves the full extent of their learning potential but
people can continue to develop their cognitive capacity throughout their lives. He claim
that people should learn how to learn known as ınstrumental enrichment. People interact
with other people throughout their lives and they learn from one another. Life long
learning can occur by interacting.

What I had difficulty in figuring out was nothing.


I suppose I need to give importance to think more deeply on these theory.

I believe I may use this information in my teaching to help my students to find their own
way. Because environment is really important to improve their cognitive capacities and
linguistic experience, I speak english in classroom or may be I invite some tourist in class
to show my students how they use their language and also I divide class into groups and
give them different topics to force them to speak lastly I use technology to make my
students use language effeciently I make them watch film or listen music or I give them a
book written in target language and want them to read it. I make feedback sessions with
my children after the class I ask them how they feel, what they have difficulty in figuring
out,wheter it is difficult or easy and I use these information accordingly when I meet them
again. I believe the effect of the feedback in education so I give it more importance.
Throughout the session they intract each other and learn something from each other.I
can work with their parents I want them to be a good mediator I say them that they
should be careful and answer all the questions they ask and if it is possible they should
expose their children to language frequently for example, they can go their children to
the cinema or I want them to wrıte the name of the subects and stick paper on them etc.
so that learning can take place.
