A Malaysian On Top of the World

Datuk Lee Chong Wei is one of the top badminton players in the world
today. He has beaten many great players including Lin Dan of China and
Peter Gade Christensen of Denmark. Chong Wei is known for his fast reaction
times and quick movements. His opponents fear his cross-court smashes.
However, it has been a long, hard journey to success. He started learning the
game at the age of eleven. He suffered numerous defeats. The player he
had beaten had many time knocked him off the court in return.

It is determination that makes Chong Wei a true sportsman. He never

gave up. He always returned to the court, but as a fitter, faster and smarter
player. For example, in the 2004 Olympic Games, he dropped out in the
second round. In the 2008 Olympic Games, he won the silver medal.

2010 was a great year for Lee Chong Wei. First, he captured the
Korean Open in January 2010. One week later, he won his sixth Malaysian
Open. In March he become the unofficial ‘world champion’ by winning the All-
England title.

On April 5, 2006, Lee Chong Wei was named the 2005 National
Sportsman Award, and again in 2009. On June 6, 2009, He received the
Darjah Bakti award from the Yang Dipertuan Agong.
