Agents of Socialization

RAFT Project

Your group will be assigned an agent of socialization. An agent of

socialization is something that helps people learn to participate in society.
For example, parents teach young children manners and norms. Parents
teach their children to share with others. Sharing is an important skill to
understand in our society. Parents teach children to communicate.
Children learn to talk, smile, frown, laugh, shake hands, etc. These skills
are important for participation in our society. All components are due on
Friday, April 1.

1.Once you have your agent, brainstorm how it socializes people. Do some
research in your book. What and how does the agent teach people about
living in our culture? Please write your group’s answers on a sheet of paper
to turn in by the end of the period today.

2. Use the magazines to create a collage about your agent of socialization.

Your collage must include at least 15 visuals and a description of at least 5
visuals on the back.

3. Using the information from #1, create a power point presentation that
describes your agent, what it teaches, and how it teaches. Your power point
must be at least 4 slides and must include clipart/photos.

4. Create a skit with your group to perform in front of the class on Friday. Your skit must
provide an example of how your agent teaches your assigned age group to participate in
society.

5. Look at the Raft Components(Your group’s RAFT is due Friday)

Format- What form will it take? How will you convey your message? (see
attached paper for ideas)

Topic- What are you trying to explain? How will you explain it? (See

This part may take longer than expected, but give it

some thought and be patient!

Project Leaders
Each group member will be the leader of one part of the Agents of Socialization project. This
group member is responsible for making sure that the group gets this portion done, and for
keeping their group members on task when working on their part. All group members should
work on and give ideas for all segments, but as the leader, it is your responsibility to make sure
your part is finished. With your group decide who will be in charge of each of the segments and
brainstorm your ideas on this sheet. This sheet is due at the end of the period on
