1 About this guide

This guide tells you how to carry out a simple upgrade of the security software on your endpoint
computers, where you upgrade the endpoint software to the recommended latest version in one
step.
To carry out a phased upgrade, where you upgrade the security software on your endpoint
computers gradually, see the Sophos Endpoint Security and Control 9.5 advanced upgrade guide
(http://www.sophos.com/sophos/docs/eng/sesc_95_augeng.pdf).
Note: This guide assumes that you have already upgraded NAC Manager and Enterprise Console.
To upgrade NAC Manager and Enterprise Console, go to the Endpoint Security and Control 9.5
Upgrade Center at http://www.sophos.com/support/upgrades/.

2 What's new?
This section describes the key new features in the Sophos endpoint software.
■ Live Protection uses in-the-cloud technology to instantly decide whether a suspicious file is a
threat and take action specified in the anti-virus protection configuration.
■ Web Protection provides enhanced protection against web threats by preventing access to
websites that are known to host malware.
■ Tamper Protection prevents unauthorized users and known malware from uninstalling Sophos
security software.

3 System requirements
For system requirements, go to the system requirements page of the Sophos website
(http://www.sophos.com/products/all-sysreqs.html).

4 About upgrading endpoint software

The information in this guide covers the following upgrade scenarios:
■ Upgrade Sophos Endpoint Security and Control 9.0 to version 9.5
■ Upgrade Sophos Anti-Virus 7 and Sophos Client Firewall 1.5 to Sophos Endpoint Security and
Control 9.5
During the Sophos Client Firewall installation, there will be a temporary disconnection of
network adapters. The interruption may cause the disconnection of networked applications,
such as Remote Desktop.

5 Upgrade endpoint software now

This section describes how to upgrade the security software on your endpoint computers to the
recommended latest version in one step.
Note: The procedure described in this section upgrades all the security software components,
including the Compliance Agent for NAC (if you already use Sophos NAC).
To upgrade endpoint computers now:

1. In Enterprise Console, on the View menu, click Update Managers.

2. In the Software Subscriptions pane, double-click the subscription you want to change.
The Software Subscription dialog box appears.

3. Next to Windows 2000 and later, click in the Version field, and then click again.
4. In the list of available versions, select 9.5 with the type of updating you want.
Normally you subscribe to Recommended to ensure that your software is kept up to date
automatically.

The next time Enterprise Console downloads updates, it will download the new version of the
endpoint software. Your Windows computers will then upgrade themselves to version 9.5
automatically.
Note: When the computers upgrade, the computer details in Enterprise Console may show "Differs
from policy" in the Policy Compliance column. To correct this, right-click the computers, click
Comply with, and then click the relevant policy or policies.
