Although when Medvedev came into power as Russiaǯs president he seemed like a
puppet for Putin, this article suggests that tension may be forming between the two
and Russia as a whole. One example of this is their differing opinions on the subject
of Libya and UN intervention. Medvedev was able to change how Channel One, the
most popular Russian media outlet owned by cronies of Putin, showed the subject
(Anti-western to Neutral). Not only may their be tension between the two men, but
Russia also seems to weary of the once very popular Putin, as well as Medvedev.

This article is about Russia directing windfall oil revenues to a special fund in hopes
that it will preserve liquidity and stop any more inflation. The money, instead of
going to the market, will go to Russiaǯs Reserve Fund, as well as to cover domestic
debt. Even with this and other measures taken by the Russian government, Inflation
still plagues the country, usually more than officials predict it will.

This article suggests that Russian media, once a strong force in the 90ǯs, has become
nothing more than a instrument of state control. The article points out that 80% of
media outlets are financed by the government, which creates pressure on the media
to censor itself. Even though the Internet is still a pure form of communication free
from the government, the writer disregards this as only 10-11% use the web for
news.

In a country as diverse as Nigeria, advertisers need to be very careful in creating
non-offensive advertisements or face very harsh negative retaliation. Not only do
ads in the country reflect the types of businesses there, but also the country itself;
for example, patriotism in ads is very popular in Nigeria. Many foreign companies
adapt to please Nigeriansǯ love of their country, such as Virginia Nigeria, an airline,
changing its name to Air Nigeria.

A recently released document from WikiLeaks quotes a Nigerian official who said
that politicians and the military are behind oil thefts in the country, not militants.
According to the official, Tony Uranta, militants only accounted for about fifthteen
percent of the theft, the rest being from politicians and the military. Although an
Amnesty created in 2009 has calmed a lot of the violence surrounding the oil thefts,
the crimes are still a major problem.

After a presidential election, riots break out in Nigeria, most so in Kafanchan. The
riots ended with hundreds of people dead and destruction everywhere paints a
clear image of the divided nation. Muslims attacked Christians and vice versa, but
the articles argues that the violence is poverty fueled, not by religious extremism.

This article talks about multiple hidden mass graves of victims of drug cartel
violence being found. According to the article, because of the presidentǯs stronger
attempt to stop them, the drug cartels have had to diversify their violence, which
could be a reason for the massive amount of murders. Officials arenǯt safe from
corruption either, as many police officers have been connected to the mass murders.

This article talks about a report that predicts that Mexico may go from oil exporter
to importer in the next decade as funding declines for exploration and domestic
demand increases. 1/3 of Mexicoǯs federal budget depends on Oil, so the change
from exporter to importer could have a huge negative impact on Mexican
development. The best move for Mexican oil right now is untapped oil in the Gulf of
Mexico, but with the recent BP spill, as well as increasing environmental concerns,
doing so is not the easiest thing in the world.

This article is about a recent bill passed by Senate in Mexico that allows federal
lawmakers to seek re-election, senate to call national referendums, and presidential
power to veto the federal budget. The bill still needs to be passed in the House and
approved by the President before it can become law. The bill is a revised version of
2009 bill that had parts rejected because of increasing the size of House and the
Senate.
