SACK GABIONS
GALMAC COATED

Sack gabions are cylindrical baskets made of 8x10 double D


twisted steel woven wire mesh, are produced in compliance
with the Directive 89/106/EEC, have EC mark in compliance
with ETA-09/0414 and are provided with Product Certification.
Sack gabions are filled with stones at the project site to form
flexible and permeable structures used in river trainings and
various emergency works. Sack gabions are supplied with steel
reinforcing wires inserted during the manufacturing process to
facilitate closing during installation.
In order to reinforce the structure, all mesh panel edges are
selvedged with a wire having a greater diameter (Tables 3, 4). L

Wire
The steel wire used in the manufacture of the gabion is heavily

galvanized with Galmac, a Zn-5%Al alloy. The standard

3. Galmac coating: minimum quantities of galmac shown at

4. Adhesion of galmac: the adhesion of the galmac coating

to the wire shall be such that, when the wire is wrapped six
turns around a mandrel having four times the diameter of
the wire, it does not flake or crack when rubbing it with the
bare fingers, in accordance with En 10244.
5. Outwearing accelerated aging test in a general condensa-
tion of moisture containing sulfur dioxide (28 cycles) accor-

ding to EN ISO 6988 (without showing signs of red rust).
