Dear Parents
We have just finished the first round of goal
setting mendans for some of our students.
Thank you for making time for the meetings. I
know there are many more requests pending. I
shall now put aside time on Saturday 14th
May. We shall begin at 230 pm and each slot
would be for 15 minutes and the last at 545
pm. Please send in your requests with one
alternative time slot. I shall align all the
requests received and revert back with
confirmations.
The puppet workshop is on Sunday. I wish it
were possible to accommodate more children.
But given that we could only manage a few
hours in the morning that day, Umesh decided
to limit the number of children. Also the
children would be working independently so I
guess they should old enough to follow
instructions and construction activity on their
own.
Please note Summer Challenge 2011 is on!
For those of you who may not be aware, the
Summer Challenge requires children to sign
up to do a certain number of sheets over a
minimum of 45 days in the summer holidays.
Once the committed number of sheets are
done and submitted back to us after home
marking and corrections – the children qualify
for their rewards.
So what is the carrot at the end of the Summer
Challenge?! We gave away movie tickets and
gift vouchers from a book store to those
students who met their challenge target last
year. The only difference is that we were a
little lenient last year and we gave away the
gifts even if the child was below the target
number of sheets. This year we shall however
expect students to stick to their commitment.
{I guess I should be prepared for the tears that
will flow when they realise the ramifications
of not keeping their word – but I guess this
will be part of their growing up process and
part of our learning experiences}.
Since schools tend to have different schedules,
the Summer Challenge will run from mid May
through till end August 2011.
Since this is a challenge, children should
commit to do more sheets than what they are
doing as of now. However, the idea is not to
saddle them with a quantum of sheets that take
away the pleasure of the holidays from them.
They will your help in figuring out travel
plans for the family so that they know how
many days they need to commit for and then
figure out with your guidance how many they
sheets they may be able to do daily during the
Challenge period.
Children will sign themselves in the register. Please refrain from stepping into the Centre when the
child is discussing his/her plans with me. This is a small step they will take in becoming a
responsible, independent student.

Please note participation in the Summer Challenge depends entirely on the child. Please do not
coerce them in case they are not interested. As long as they can keep up the daily study habit, they
would continue to make steady progress.

To help us manage the Centre better, we seek your cooperation in ensuring the following:
• I’d request parents to ensure your child comes to the Centre at the appointed time slot only.
This allows us to manage the centre flow better and ensures that the Centre is not
overcrowded at any point of time. Besides ensuring all children get adequate attention and
support if needed, there are no delays for the child too.
• In case you want to change your slot, please give us a week’s notice so we can make
adequate arrangements.
• Kumon fees are collected in advance i.e. before the 21st of the preceding month. We have to
surrender the amount collected to the HO before the 25 th to receive stocks. Delays in
remittances seriously impede the progress of all our students. The amount to be paid is Rs.
2760/- per month per subject.
• We accept payments by cheque (cheque in the name of Kumon Green Wood Learning
Centre). Please ensure the cheque is dated; signed; crossed.
• Do not make any alterations on the face of the cheque;
• Please use the same ink/pen to fill in the details on the cheque – the banks are getting
stringent on this.
