The Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test provided information based on the answers that I
submitted about my personality. According to the results, the qualitative analysis of my type
expressed feeling personality, and distinctively expressed judging personality. (Figure 1) I don’t
agree with some of the assessment. I am a more pronounced introvert than stated. I focus more
on the inner world and get energy through reflecting on information, ideas, and/or concepts.

personality. I used to trust facts or at least what I thought were facts. Now I focus more on
trusting interrelationships, theories, and future possibilities. In the military, we were required to
rely on what we knew to be facts. Now that I am retired, and have learned so much about my
ancestry, I am encountering new experiences daily with a formerly unknown culture. Every
perception that I had has been challenged and required adjustment. (Humanmetrics, 2011)
All other assessments listed seemed to coincide with my personal assessment. There were
no real surprises in the results. I found that some of the questions were slightly difficult because
some of the answers were what I used to do verse what I currently do. If I were still in the work
place, I would have a more accurate assessment because decisions there had to be precise. Due
to the nature of my job, plans had to be well thought out and sympathy was not a luxury. For
example, if we had a mission to move a unit from one location to the next and a soldier did not
report for duty, we had to follow specific procedures. The guidelines are there and deviation
from those guidelines could cause a loss of life. Therefore, unless the soldier was in the hospital
or deceased, we had no choice but to adjudicate the matter in accordance with our rules and
regulations.
If I received the current assessment results while I was in the same work environment, I
would definitely have issues that require immediate attention. It would not be a sound
assessment for an effective leader. I would address each weakness by determining what is
required to build that area of competency. Afterwards, a quarterly self-assessment and peer
assessment would be conducted to give me an idea of progress. This method would surely
The overall opinion of this assessment is that it can be used as a guiding tool if the
questions are answered honestly. It should not be used as the only method. A supervisor, peer
and subordinate’s assessment would caveat this in a manner in which it will provide an
individual a well-rounded understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. The assessment can
measure the events in a controlled environment of what has occurred in the past. However, it
cannot measure the human heart. The actions that one may take in a work environment may not
necessarily be the same acts that would occur during an emergency or wartime. Some reactions
are situational. Therefore, other tools should be used in conjunction with the assessment.
