Job Title: Accountant
FT, exempt
Salary: Commensurate with experience
The Accountant’s primary responsibility is to perform all routine accounting and A/P functions for the
organization and provide support to the Director of Finance. The Accountant also serves as the
organization’s purchasing agent for office supplies.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintain thorough and accurate financial records, including full responsibility for accounts
payable and 1099 reporting (CA state tax withholding for non‐residents)
Record all cash receipts and weekly bank deposits. Responsible for accurate accounting for
event concession revenue
Assist in weekly cash forecasting and reconciliation
Prepare accounting schedules, reports and assist in preparing financial statements
Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts, including all bank accounts
Maintain files, including filing of general ledger journal vouchers, cash receipts and accounts
payable documentation, and other miscellaneous filings
Prepare audit schedules and assist in annual audit and tax preparation
Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and Montalvo’s policies,
procedures, internal controls and contracts
Assume responsibility for effectively researching, tracking, and resolving (or properly referring)
accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies
Assist Director of Finance and HR Manager as needed. Provide backup support for HR
administration in their absence, such as payroll processing
Prepare annual SBE return, and all paperwork relating to California Non‐resident Withholding
Inventory and order basic office supplies for organization.
Train and supervise office volunteers and interns working in the finance office.
Keep management informed of any significant accounting problems or internal control issues in
the organization
Assist in preparing for Finance & Audit Committee Meetings
Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Bachelors degree and equivalent
work experience
Three to five years of relevant experience and proven ability with accounting systems, databases
and Microsoft Office programs required (Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint)
Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge software not required but a definite plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, and with all organizational staff, volunteers,
trustees, community members, vendors and park visitors.

Ability to multi‐task and work independently and make sound decisions, without close
supervision.
A passion for local history and the arts is essential.
Working Conditions & Physical Tasks:
Typical office environment; requires the ability to remain seated at a computer workstation for
extended periods. Some job functions may be performed outdoors. Some local travel necessary; valid
driver’s license and access to own vehicle required. Must occasionally lift/carry supplies weighing up to
30 lbs. May need to stand or bend to perform program support tasks. Position requires some
evening/weekend availability. Background check and DOJ fingerprint clearance required.
