Patterson - Babylon – The Land of Graven Images

Luke 10:25-27 ¶ And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying,
Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26 He said unto him, What is written in the
law? how readest thou? 27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God
with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy
mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Matthew 22:35-40 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question,
tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and
with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great
commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour
as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the
prophets.

Mal 2:17 Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we
wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the
LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?

Isaiah 5:18-25 ¶ Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as
it were with a cart rope: 19 That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that
we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that
we may know it! 20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put
darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for
bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong
drink: 23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of
the righteous from him! 24 Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame
consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up
as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised
the word of the Holy One of Israel. 25 Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled
against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten
them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets.
For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
Isaiah 42:8 I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another,
neither my praise to graven images.

Isaiah 1:14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a
trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

Jer 8:19 Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that
dwell in a far country: [Is] not the LORD in Zion? [is] not her king in her? Why have they
provoked me to anger with their graven images, [and] with strange vanities?

Jer 51:49 As Babylon [hath caused] the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall
the slain of all the earth.

Slain 02491. ...pierced (especially to death); figuratively, polluted...profane...

Jer 50:38 A drought [is] upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it [is] the land
of graven images, and they are mad upon [their] idols.

Jer 51:47 Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the graven
images of Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall
in the midst of her.

Jer 51:52 Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will do judgment
upon her graven images: and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

Eze 5:11-13 Wherefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD; Surely, because thou hast
defiled my sanctuary with all thy detestable things, and with all thine
abominations, therefore will I also diminish thee; neither shall mine eye spare, neither
will I have any pity. 12 A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence, and with famine
shall they be consumed in the midst of thee: and a third part shall fall by the sword
round about thee; and I will scatter a third part into all the winds, and I will draw out a
sword after them. 13 Thus shall mine anger be accomplished, and I will cause my
fury to rest upon them, and I will be comforted: and they shall know that I the LORD
have spoken it in my zeal, when I have accomplished my fury in them.

Mr 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye
may keep your own tradition.

Mr 7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have
delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Isa 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near [me] with their
mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and
their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

1 Corin 10:20-22 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to
devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. 21 Ye
cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of
the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. 22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy?
are we stronger than he?

Eze 33:22-33 Now the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening, afore he that
was escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning;
and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb. 23 Then the word of the LORD
came unto me, saying, 24 Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of
Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the
land is given us for inheritance. 25 Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood:
and shall ye possess the land? 26 Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and
ye defile every one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land? 27 Say thou
thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes
shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be
devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence. 28
For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the
mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through. 29 Then shall they
know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their
abominations which they have committed. 30 ¶ Also, thou son of man, the children
of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses,
and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear
what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD. 31 And they come unto thee as
the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy
words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but
their heart goeth after their covetousness. 32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very
lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for
they hear thy words, but they do them not. 33 And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it
will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
