Lesson Objective(s)
(Stated in observable and measurable terms)
Students will be able to use the Ladder Method to find the LCM, GCF, and simplified fractions of any two numbers.
Students will successfully use the Ladder Method 4 out of 5 times. They will identify the answers for LCM, GCF, and simplified
fractions 7 out of 10 times initially and 8 out of 10 times at the end of the lesson.
Assessment Plan
(What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?)
Students will be able show understanding by holding up class cards. They will also show the necessary notes in their notebooks..
Students will successfully use the Ladder Method 4 out of 5 times on their large group, small group, pair and individual
Materials:
This lesson should be presented in the inclusion classroom with support in both the resource room and the “After Math” program.
The students will need their books, folders, notebooks, pencils, and Sieve of Eratosthenes Packet.
Enrichment Techniques:
The lesson will initially be presented in the inclusion math room. Then the students who need enrichment will be able to use larger
numbers or triple numbers immediately and /or attend the “After Math” tutoring sessions as a peer tutor.
Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students have access to and are able
to participate in the lesson):
Students will have access to their packet: the Sieve of Eratosthenes, the notes from the lecture, and their peers. Students who still
have trouble with their times tables will have a multiplication chart.
Students will be able to ask any of the adults in the room after they: “Ask three before me.”
Students will have time in the resource room or “After Math” tutoring sessions if needed.
Students will have an opportunity to work with their peer tutors.
Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:
Today we are going to use Eratosthenes’ Sieve to break down numbers. We will use our knowledge of Prime Numbers to find the
Least Common Multiple (LCM); the Greatest Common Factor (GCF);’ and to simplify fractions.
Closure:
Students will be able to use the Ladder Method automatically to determine the LCM; GCF; or simplified fraction.
Students will use the Ladder Method as they learn to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators.
