Mr. Chairman, fellow executives of NAHSAG, Presidents of the various NMAs gathered
here, ladies and gentlemen, I am highly delighted to stand before you to deliver to you the
state of NAHSAG.
Firstly, I wish to express my sincere appreciation to you, our noble members for your
steadfastness and hope in NAHSAG, even in the face of the various challenges we faced
and are still facing.
The mantle of leadership was ceremoniously handed over to the my executive board on
the 5th of February, 2010 at the School of Hygiene auditorium in Korle-Bu. Prior to the
handing over, we needed to make frantic efforts to secure NAHSAG properties and
documents from the then outgoing President before he leaves for the States for further
studies. We also secured some spoilt computers of NAHSAG from the Coordinating
Secretary. Efforts to retrieve a color printer from the 2nd Vice president proved futile- he
never picked our calls or replied our message.

A secretariat located at Kaneshie was handed over to us. In actual fact, the location of the
secretariat was not the best for a health students¶ association and moreover, the landlord
of the place claimed that the previous administration owed him close to GHC 1000 as
rent and that we could only use the place if we settle the debt. Calls made on the past
administration to come to a clarify issues yielded no result. No valid tenancy agreements
were also handed over to us. Considering the financial status of the Association at the
time, with a little over GHC 400 in our account, the best we could do was to think of how
to settle the debt and then relocate the secretariat. We ended up settling some of the
money owed from other sources and succeeded in relocating the secretariat to its current
placed at School of Hygiene Students (SOH) Hostel, Korle-Bu. Here we want to thank
the past and present SRC presidents of SOH-K¶bu for their efforts in making the
relocation possible. These are the items in the secretariat:
Two computers
Two printers
Two office cabinet
Considering the financial crisis in which we meet the Association, the Executive body
adopted measures to bring in some funds. These were not limited to:
Mr. Chairman, I must say that, all these efforts could not raise any significant amount of funds.

Mr. Chairman, the house, when this noble association was formed in 2005, it had a vision, a vision to
unite all health students under an umbrella and to empower them, to use their skill whilst in school for the
benefit of our society, by 2009, the momentum with which the Association started had gradually
dwindled. We knew what lay ahead of us when we got to know the true state of NAHSAG at our last
congress in University of Ghana. We came into office with no structure to build on, but today, we know
where we have taken NAHSAG. We have managed to streamline our ideal and what we stand for. It is
our hope that by the time we end this congress, the leaders that will emerge will build on the various
structures we have laid down. I promise my unflinching support for them throughout their executive year.
Thank you.
