I was responsible for the development of the completely automated expert system
for PMC, a company whose mission is to test aircraft and other large machine oil
samples and predict oil change and maintenance requirements and the overall sta
te of the equipment. The system included:
ï · Identification of the oil samples by bar coded labels
ï · Data capture directly from the lab equipment (7 stations)
ï · Accumulation of the test results in an ORACLE database
ï · Analysis and trending of the results
ï · Conversion of the results into written reports by the expert system
ï · Customer modem access to the all reports (verbal, technical, graphic)
ï · Automatic invoicing
ï · Complete accounting system to trial balance
I was involved in all aspects of the development, from design and research, choi
ce of equipment, languages, software and tools to the final testing and document
ation, both technical and user. This was originally a 50 100 hour project, which
landed up being 3 1/2 years; 6 months part time, 2 1/2 years full time and 6 mo
nths part time.
