Advantages and disadvantages of switching Operating system

Windows is a well know operating system and being used widely by the universe [world] .
Windows provide easy GUI [graphical user interface] which is may operated by almost
everyone. Windows uses executable file which is very easy to run , but , it also have a few
disadvantages . Nowadays windows develop the new Windows 7 OS family which provide
stability to its user . Take not that the OS for computer is not only WINDOWS , we also have
The Top Of The Class: “ Mac OS “ , The top speed : Ubuntu , The God Of Network : Linux .
this different OS provides variety of service to its user . let say I am a networking student then I
should prefer Linux to be installed on my PC , otherwise if I am a “gamefreak’ then Windows is
the suitable os . Straight to the point : Few Advantages and disadvantages of switching Operating
system is :

Advantages.
- Different operating system offers different UIQ , when using windows , user might
experience easy interface to be operate , but when running on Linux , The interface
provide by linux is quite simple and quite fast to execute a program.

- newer operating system platforms have the attention of the software development
market, resulting in a larger selection of available third-party products and tools.

- Provides a fast computing experience . when a user switch to simpler OS , the

memory module will be enhanced due to simpler process that involved in the new
OS. For example , Windows have complex set of process , while Ubuntu does not
bounds with complex processes.

- Linux and Ubuntu OS may not easily infected by the virus like windows .
Windows use the .exe extension which is executable and can easily infected by
malicious program . exe stands for executable, once it is clicked it is unleashed. Not
all are dangerous, cross check on google if you are not certain of what the file is. It
installs programs, some of which can be very dangerous, Spy-ware or Virus, but a lot
of legitimate applications too.
Disadvantages.
- Kernel for each operating system is different , there is no possibilities that a Linux
prefetch folder being access by windows OS . In the other hands , Mac Os operates on
different platform while windows software usually use .MSI platform.

- Older files database is not in correct format to be run , basically the changes of the
extention when switching program cause a file to be malfunction and cannot be
access eventhough after trying the recovery methods.

- Increasing bootime . Bootsystem usually having a set of files that called as filesys.
This files periodically fragmented when the pc is booting more one OS , therefor this
action caused the bootime and the startup will take longer time to complete.

- Questionable driver support. It’s true, many hardware vendors do little to support
this system(linux). But the Open Source community work to create drivers where
proprietary options are lacking, for all that these are often imperfect.

- User may experience low and poor skillset when using a new OS . Turning point of
the curve of the new environment may become higher , therefor user may need a long
period of time to understand and suites the new interface by different Os that been
Installed.
Q1-a . Are alternative operating systems any less susceptible to viruses than Windows?
Why or why not?

Alternative operating systems have fewer users, and are thus less interesting for virus writers to
target. Some alternative operating systems, such as Linux or FreeBSD, have a better security
model than Windows, and thus would not be as vulnerable even if they were in the majority.
Others, such as AROS have very weak security schemes and lack viruses only through obscurity.
Finally, work-alikes of older operating systems, such as FreeDOS, are as susceptible to viruses
as their ancestor (MS-DOS). No one writes DOS viruses anymore, though, so FreeDOS is
relatively safe in that regard.

Q1-b . What is Microsoft approach to eliminating virus attacks?

Microsoft just released the new secure and free antivirus and spyware-protection software ,
both named as Microsoft Security Essential and Windows Defender . This two software grants
user the abilities to improve computer security line by enabled the realtime protection(DOG) ,
Cookies block , filtering bad URL’s and remove malware and virus . Note that this is only basic
protection , and it does not have the abilities to recover a system that been corrupted / infected by
Trojan.

Microsoft created Windows Vista which has new and improved fire walls (protection from
unauthorized intruders ), as well as, auto blocking of pop-ups (unwanted programs). Vista also
has enhanced administration of user accounts (restrict permissions) and something called
Windows Defender is also included in Vista.

Microsoft also offers Windows Firewall. It will monitor all network traffic on the
connections for which it is enabled. As a matter of fact, the firewall keeps track of all
communications that have originated from your computer, and it prevents unsolicited traffic
from reaching your computer. If necessary, the firewall dynamically opens ports and allows your
computer to receive traffic that you have specifically requested, such as a Web page for which
you have clicked the address
Q1-c What types of cost are involved in changing operating systems?

Apple is a corporation and their stuff is expensive, but Apple is probably never going to enjoy
wide adoption in the business world. Windows is entrenched, and as Mike says, so much gets
invested into it that they would never completely jump ship and move to OS X. Companies are
slow enough to even adopt Windows Vista for fear of the differences from XP.

Linux is good for some server-level environments, but it is not going to ever find wide
adoption for corporate desktops either. I don’t care what any Linux user says, Linux is a difficult
operating system. Ubuntu has gotten pretty good, but Linux, for the most part, is far from user
friendly. Linux is also so anti-commercialism that it shoots itself in the foot. By not adopting and
working with anything commercial, they guarantee that they will not be used in a commercial
environment. That is, except for perhaps web servers where they have IT people on staff who
know how to administrate Linux.

While Microsoft offers variety for its user , from starter to ultimate you just name it .

Normally for home computer the cost inludes all usefull software is around 350.00MYR, for
office computer the cost varies from 400.00MYR to 500MYR with complete genuine software.
The cost will be dramatically drop when we are agreed to use Pirate software and non-genuine
OS.

I recommend buying Windows 7 Ultimate. Although the price is more expansive then
other edition but it have include the other entire edition speck that not have in other edition. For
example BitLocker. Their have written about BitLocker before and it is very useful for securing
data on mobile disks thru encryption.  Administrators can set data protection for any removable
storage device upon which users want to write data. Beside that, Windows 7 Ultimate has
Branch Cache. Imagine this WAN scenario: when the first person in a branch location requests
a file over the WAN, it will be cached locally for any subsequent requests within the branch. The
cached files can either be distributed across machines in the branch, or centrally on a host server,
if one exists.  With this feature, you can save a lot of network bandwidth. Windows 7 Ultimate
also can Boot from Virtual Hard Disk (VHD). This feature is useful for advanced users –
admin types who tinker with Virtual PCs and VHDs.  If you can’t imagine a benefit of this
feature, think about this for a moment – you can boot multiple operating systems without having
to create multiple hard disk partitions. DirectAccess in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

Question 3 :

Assume you have a computer that contains 2 GB of memory. It contains four memory slots.
Each slot can contain 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB , or 2 GB memory modules. Currently,
each slot contains a 512 MB memory module. What combination of memory modules will

satisfy your memory upgrade to 8 GB? Write your answer and recommendation.

Replace all four 512 MB memory modules with 2 GB memory modules. You could replace
512 MB memory module at first memory slot with a 2 GB memory module, and replace a
another 512 MB module second memory slot with a 2 GB memory module and follow for the
first memory slot to 3 and 4 memory slot to replace memory slot.

My recommendation for this combination is benefit to use a latest product is DDR 3

SDRAM. DDR 3 SDRAM have a clock speed, it’s make a good excess when you put in the
computer. Example , when you use product DDR 3 SDRAM for addition memory, it can make a
better performance and increase your performance computer.

Used Corsair hardcore RAM , this ram is well equipped with alloy metal at the back of it to
ensure heat is transfer away from it efficiently. RAM that overheated may result in poor data
procession and execution .
