are adequately catered for.”

Briefing news men on the outcome of the consultative meeting President Goodluck Jonathan
had with the traditional rulers, the chairman NCTRN’s Coordinating committee, Etsu Nupe,
Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar said “the rate at which traditional rulers are being dragged into politics
is very alarming”.

He said some governors and local government chairmen force traditional rulers into politics, a
situation which he said is not good for the institution.

The Etsu Nupe said it is very saddening for any for traditional rulers to be called upon to come
and put out fire ignited by the politicians adding that such actions give the common man the
impression the traditional rulers partook in the cause of the problem.

He, therefore, called for the passage of the Bill on constitutional advisory roles for the traditional
rulers as promised by President Jonathan so that the traditional institution can play active role in
nation-building.

The traditional rulers’ address read in part “The President reaffirmed his commitment to continue
such consultations in the onerous task of governing the country. He thanked the traditional rulers
for their sustained contributions towards the development of the country. He further vowed that
he will not fail the nation.”

“The traditional rulers thanked the President for the continued confidence reposed in them by the
government of the Federation. They also reiterated their unalloyed support to all tiers of
government in the country, taking cognizance of their roles as fathers of their various
communities.”

Traditional rulers, especially in the northern parts of the country, suffered several direct attacks
from their subjects, following suspected partisanship before and after the April elections.
