Chapter 1 Product Features

1.1. Introducing System Features

The client side has the same style as the server side, easy to use and functionally powerful
(complicated configurations have been fully encapsulated and all functional interfaces have been
provided so that not only the expansion capacity is ensured but also your time is saved from reading
technical documents),. It supports the ability to view at remote side, address book, and reconnection
in case of disconnection; incorporates state-of-the-art compression algorithm and technology to
ensure the absolute stability of the system; Its hardware and operating system occupies much fewer
resources than like products; the image frame is fluent and high definition; and it supports switching
of 1-16 channels.

1.2. Network Architecture

The entire network architecture comprises server's host computer and client side, and supports UDP
and TCP (as shown in the figure).

1. Server's Host Computer

The server's host computer is the data source of the whole network system, directly providing
audio/video signals for the client side. Generally, it is a host computer furnished with audio/video
compression card, and of the ability to properly run this system's server software. Each channel of
the host computer allows simultaneous connection of multi clients.

DVR4000

-1-
Digital Hard Disk Video System - User's Manual for Client Side

2. Client Side
It refers to the client side directly connected to the server's host computer. Any client can be used
simultaneously as the server of other client sides, providing audio/video signals for other client
sides. Each channel of each client side can simultaneously connect to the server.
For an in-house network which may be local area network or wide area network, the entire network
can only be linked to the server's host computer through a leased broadband, and client-side host
computers B, C and D are linked to client-side host computer A with client-side software system.
Note: At present, each channel of client-side host computer can theoretically connect multi - client
sides, however practically, the load amount depends heavily on the actual capability of your
computer.
(1) For local area network users, if remote sub-control host computer is of preferable capability, it
is then available to transmit video/audio signals through network in such a manner that the video
quality is synchronal.
(2) For a wide area network user, it depends on the uplink bandwidth of the network to which the
host computer of supervisory control system links. Under limited band width and lower
requirements for real-time responsibility and audio/video specifications.

1.3. Running Environment of Client Side

1. Software Installation and Running Environment

 It is recommended to run on a Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional
platform rather than the Server operating system.
 Preferably use 8.1 or later version of DirectX; hardware acceleration enabled.
 Display: 32-bit 1024x768 true color.
 Font: Default fonts.

2.Hardware Installation and Running Environment

 CPU: at least PIII 730 (or C3 1G) , P4 CPU recommended;
 Memory: at least 512M; 1G or above is recommended for system more than 12 channels;
 Motherboard: compression card operates in close relation with motherboard, and commonly is
compatible with motherboard integrated with Intel chipset, therefore a name brand motherboard
integrated with Intel series chipset is recommended.
 Video adaptor: video adaptor shall support hardware extension functionality, and adopt at least
32M display memory. Image quality depends heavily on video adaptor, therefore you should
carefully make your choice. Preferably you can adopt GeForce or ATI video adaptor. System
does not support partially integrated video adaptor. You can make your options according to the
practical situation.
 Sound card: minimum requirement is motherboard integrated sound card.
 Hard disk: preferably high capacity IDE or other hard disk, with a rotational speed of 7200
rpm.

For hardware installation requirements, refer to Hardware Installation Essentials.

Chapter 2 Main Interface

The main interface is divided into the image surveillance area, information display area, functional
control area, cradle head and lens control area, surveillance switching operation area, time display
area and Logo display area.

Image surveillance area: You can split up and adjust the preview frame through the image
surveillance area; Double clicking on one of the frames will zoom in this frame until full screen;
after linked to server, you can switch the image in display window into video image of this channel.
Double click the image of each channel will make the display enlarged (for example, if you want to
switch over the current 16 channels display to 9 channels display, then double click it will change to
9 channels display, double click thrice the image, then it will switch to full screen display of this
channel's image.)

2.1 Quick Configuration of Client Side and Link to Server

Important: Configure the client side according to the procedure as described below prior to display
operations.

2.1.1 Configure the Server to Connect

After installation and running of software, the subsequent step is to configure the client side and link
it to server.

1. Find function control area, click on button (system configuration).

2. Select Address Book from the window that appears, and then right click on Add Address, as
shown in the figure below (in this figure an address has already been added, and a new one is to
be added).Note: Add a connection protocol between client and server, and then the information
of a new channel will be added to the list; you can select the information of an existing channel
to delete.

3. The window as shown below appears after Add Address is selected. You can configure the
client side and link to server according to the client side environment. Configuration selections
shall be one-to-one corresponding to that of the server side. For example, the number of ports
shall be one-to-one corresponding to that of the server side, if improperly added, the client side
will not be able to link to the server side.

(2) Server information(including IP address and other information of target server's host
computer, DO NOT confuse with local IP address)
Address: Server's domain name or server's IP address. If you are in a local area network, fill in
local area network's IP address, ex., 192.168.1..If you are in INTERNET, fill in internet
address (World Wide Web address such as www.dvrs.cn etc.).
Port: The system default port is 9600. The setting depends on the server side settings. In case of
modification at server side, client side shall modify this setting, too.
Remote playback port: 9602, which is provided by server side and linked to video record port
of server side, and display and play is performed by a local player.
Maximum channel number: Click on Get to acquire the number of channels set up by server
side.(If added by yourself, there may be some channels fail to display)It is recommended to
click on Get prior to filling in, the system will automatically add a number of channels for
you.
Control port: 9601, which is the cradle head control port, intended for properly controlling
cradle head after all configurations have been completed. Note: If cradle head is beyond
control after images of each channel are clicked on, probably this number of the port added
is wrong.
Talkback port: 9603, which is intended for calling server and conducting speech
communications.
Said ports are all provided for server side, thus they shall be linked to server. The ports added shall
be one-to-one corresponding to that of the server side.

(3) Logon Information (Address Book)

Account number and password refer to those assigned on the server side, you should ascertain that
you can log onto the server at the server side with this account number, otherwise you cannot log on
the server from the client side, the default password is admin (User name and password are case
sensitive).
After all items mentioned above have been added, click on Confirm to complete the configuration,
and the window as shown below appears.

Chapter 3 FAQs

I. Failed to enable preview.

Possible causes are:
1. Low end display card, see Description for Server Side;
2. If preview status indicator does not light up, check system logbook:
(1) Potentially it failed to properly link to server's host computer, due to, for example, the
server not yet starting up. Recommended removal method: check if server is running;
(2) It has already properly connected with server, yet each attempt of client side to start up data
receiving failed. Recommended removal method: attempt to manually start up once again.
II. Software reports error immediately after started up:
When the application starts up, an error message box appears and reads, for example, "this
application must run 1024*768, please set it before running" .Press Confirm and client side exits
automatically.
Recommended removal method:
From Control Panel of Start menu, select Display, and then select Settings in Display Attribute,
modify the resolution on Settings page, drag it to 1024 * 768 , then Confirm the setting
modification, finally restart up client side.
III. Mosaic image exists in preview of images and playback of video recording files at client
side:
Possible reasons:
1. Unsatisfactory signals from host computer;
2. Unsatisfactory connectivity of network, which results in loss of some audio/video signals.
IV. Animation senses when images is previewed at client side:
Possible causes are:
1. The frame rate in video recording settings of channel corresponding to server's host computer is
set to a value lower than it is supposed to be; or
2. Insufficient network communications bandwidth. If this is the case, just properly adjust down
the video recording quality of the host computer side.
