Grade Three End of Year Revision Guide – May 2011

16th May 2011

‫السالم عليكم و رحمة ﷲ و بركاته‬

Dear parents,

The End of Year examination week will begin on Saturday the 11th
June 2011. Information on the exact dates for specific subjects will
follow shortly in a letter from the school.

This examination week is testing a selection of the material that we’ve

covered since the midyear point of the academic year.

There will be a revision week prior to the examination week. The

revision week will start 4th June 2011. Subject teachers will give
students additional revision worksheets to complete during those
revision lessons.

The following provides a summary of what topics can be revised at

home.

Information on Arabic and other subjects should follow from the

teachers of those subjects.

This booklet includes information on: English, Maths, Science, Social

Studies, Islamic Studies (in English) and I.T.

Thank you.

Comprehension
This subject tests the child’s comprehension of the text and stories,
including concepts such as the characters and how they feel.
Knowing where stories are set. He needs to know whether the story is
about fantasy or realism. Recognising order in stories, what happened
first or last in a story.

The story is always an unseen passage.

The children will then be asked questions that will show whether or not
they’ve understood the story. The questions will follow many different
formats to test the learners understanding of the story.

Examples of comprehension style questions:

1. Why did the male emperor penguin hold his egg on his feet?

a. to carry it to the nest

b. to see how heavy it is
c. to hide it from bears
d. to make sure it is warm

2. When did the mother penguin leave the rookery?

a. before the father took the egg

b. after the ice melted
c. before the parents sang together
d. before the egg hatched

This is a difficult topic to revise, as it’s a skill rather than the

memorisation of facts. However, to help encourage this skill in the
children you can have your son answer the given comprehension
questions in the study pack (to follow).

Spelling

We will retest the children on a selection of the words that we have

Part of the I.T. exam will be theory based (i.e. answering questions) and
part will be practical (i.e. students will have to demonstrate that they
are able to perform certain tasks on the computer)

I.T. Exam Dates
