LISTENING SKILLS-JOB ACCOMPLISHMENT KALSOOM ZAHRA (021)

Assignment # 1(18/02/11) MBA-V(R)

A
s a social animal we listen to people every day. But there is a lot of difference between hearing
and listening. Hearing is a biological and physical ability of a person and listening is a skill. We
can say that hearing helps us to recognize the words one is uttering and listening is a skill which
helps to know what one wants us to understand. If we don't do this well, we will definitely not be
able to satisfy our relations as well as our duties. It affects our decision making ability. It makes
people think that neither we are interested in them nor they are important to us.

To become a better respondent it is necessary to listen carefully. As a daughter, sister, student

and friend, I have a lot of duties which need better listening skills for accomplishment. When I
am with my parents they needs my attention and if I am not listening to her definitely it effects
not only her but also my siblings. In my class room my first and foremost duty is to follow the
instructions of my instructor which is again linked with listening. When I am in my friend circle,
this relationship again demands devotion.

In a market when there is a professional-client relationship it is definitely very serious and

demanding relationship. This relationship needs both of them to be focused. When a
businessman is focused on what his client is saying to him he will definitely be able to fulfill the
requirements of his client in better manner, considering what the points to be enhanced are, what
points of normal concentration are, what the client wants to be in the services rendered and what
omissions are needed.

Listening helps us to understand things, assignments and tasks to become focused on our job. It
helps to know expectations others ought to us. It increases the strength of our bond with other
people. Better listening skills make us a good team player. It also helps to unearth the underlying
meanings of a simple talk. It increases our enjoyment many folds. It is a very good instrument of
learning and sorting out our problems.

When we are not listening effectively most probably we miss the important points thus declining
our efficiency ourselves. Not listening properly can decline our productivity. But giving attention
to what is said definitely makes a lot of difference.

Listening involves not just accurately hearing what people say, but getting a sense of who they
are, how they view life, what they want to accomplish, what concerns they have, what they are
afraid of, how they are feeling, what they want from us, and more. It even involves "listening" to
what people are not directly saying, or what they might be too reluctant to say, or what they
definitely don't want us to do in response to their communications.
