From HS Guidance
Dear ES and MS Parents,

We are very pleased to introduce you to a brand new and exciting high school initiative developed by the HS
Guidance Department in cooperation with the HS Administration:

The Bearcat
Summer Internship Program
We are planning to develop a four day summer internship in June 2011 for some of our sophomore and junior high
school students with various companies in the Metro Manila area. However, in order to make this work, we need
reputable companies from a variety of industries to form partnerships with us and take part.

As parents of our ES and MS students, you may own, be employed by, or know of a company interested in
supporting this very worthwhile endeavor. We ask for your support in helping us develop potential internship
placements and subsequently, lasting positive relationships with companies in the Metro Manila area.

We ask that you take time to reflect on this important initiative and its value for our ISM community. If you are in a
position to take one or more of our students as an intern at your company, please see the attachments provided.

Bearcat Summer Internship Program 2011
Pilot Year

Company Participation Introduction

The High School Guidance Department at International School Manila (ISM) is very proud to introduce you to the
BEARCAT SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM developed for our Sophomores and Juniors (Grade 10 and 11) for
this coming June 2011.
In order to complement the excellent academic instruction our students are receiving here at ISM, we feel the ability
for selected young ISM men and women to gain some “real world” working experience is absolutely invaluable to
their high school journey of self-discovery. The vision and goal of the program is for a pool of our dedicated and mo-
tivated students to be exposed to the specific responsibilities of a chosen profession, experience the day to day op-
erations in a selected field, and learn the necessary transferable skills valued and sought after in employees by em-
ployers.
For this first pilot run, we are hoping to place approximately 20 students in various internships from a variety of
fields in the Metro Manila area. Specific responsibilities for each internship will vary depending on the company/field
and the internship developed by you, of course, but having said that, we are hoping that you could provide our stu-
dents with an enriching placement experience that would include giving them various “real world” responsi-
bilities (based on your needs and the abilities/desires of the intern) as well as job shadowing opportunities
to experience your expertise (or another’s) at your place of work.
One other stipulation we ask of you (for obvious communication reasons) is that the immediate supervisor of the
intern(s) be a fluent English speaker. In addition, we also ask that a representative from the company attend
our Internship “Meet and Greet” tentatively scheduled for June 1 from 4:00 to 6:00 at ISM (Details to follow
shortly). This is a great opportunity to meet with your intern(s) so you get to know each other and to clarify any ques-
tions/concerns either party may have over coffee/juice and hors d’oeuves. This is also an invaluable learning experi-
ence for our students to talk about themselves, their accomplishments, goals and aspirations in a semi-professional
setting. We hope you can see the value in this for our students and take part.
If you are interested in providing a 4-day internship from June 13th to June 16th (for one or more of our students),
please fill out the attached “Internship Company Application” and email it back to me at mcqueend@ismanila.org
by Friday May 13 at 12:00pm.
Keep in mind that while we are requesting intern placements for a period of only 4 days, the ability to keep an
intern for an extended period of time over the summer is possible, but it is something that would be negotiated
between you and the intern(s). The extended placement would fall outside of the responsibility of our high school.
You’ll notice the attached company application allows you to indicate either preference.
Also, please understand, especially as this is a pilot year, the ability for us to place an appropriate student in your
particular company will depend on the overall demand by students and the number of internships supplied by com-
panies. We would inform you by Tuesday May 24th if a placement could or could not be arranged. If you have
any questions in the future, don't hesitate to contact me. I would be happy to explain our vision further.
I truly look forward to working with you in providing a memorable experience for one (or more) of our students.
Sincerely,

Doug McQueen

From the Admission Office

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Re-Enrollment for SY 2011-12
REMINDER: Re-Enrollment information for RETURNING STUDENTS for SY2011-12
Re-Enrollment requirements for all returning students will include, minimally,
submission of an updated Health Form or Physical Form (depending on grade level) to
the Clinic for a Clearance Signature and a Clearance Signature from the Cashier’s
Office on the Re-Enrollment Form.

The Re-Enrollment Form and other requested forms for each re-enrolling student will
be available by the beginning of April online from our website under Admission and Re-
Enrollment & Withdrawal or at the Admission Office during office hours (Monday to
Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). Parents may pick up a set of Re-Enrollment Forms
personally or your child can come to the Admission Office and get the forms. If you would like to have your
driver or househelp pick up the forms, please give them a letter of authorization to collect the Re-
Enrollment Forms for your child/children.

REMINDER: For STUDENTS NOT RETURNING next school year

(Does not apply to graduating seniors)
If your child(ren) will not be returning to ISM for the 2011-12 school year, please inform the Admission
Office as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Parents are obliged to officially inform the
School in writing on a WITHDRAWAL NOTIFICATION FORM, before the second Friday of May, if their
children will be withdrawn. Failure to do so will lead to a deduction of US$1,000 from the Facilities
Upgrade Deposit (FUD), in compensation for having held a space for the child and thus preventing the School
from offering that space to another child prior to the summer holiday break. The Withdrawal Notification
Form can be obtained from the Admission Office or from the ISM website under the Admission tab and then
click on Re-Enrollment & Withdrawal.

We currently have very few families indicating that they will not be returning and consequently there are an
ever growing number of applicants in a WAITPOOL for possible openings. This is causing great distress and
anxiety in those families (and in the Admission Office). If you are sure that your child will be leaving ISM,
please submit a Withdrawal Notification Form. This will be a great help for our planning and to the many
families waiting to be admitted to the school. Thank you.

school activities for those students whose school fees remain unpaid by end of August for the first semester,
and end of January for the second semester. It shall likewise suspend the student’s right to receive report

ture of the student’s place or reservation for the next school year.

A MESSAGE FROM
THE OPERATIONS AND SECURITY DEPARTMENT

I. IDs for the New School Year

Parent IDs
Current parent IDs will continue to be valid for the new school year 2011-2012.
Parents who require replacement school IDs due to loss or damage can acquire these from the Security Of-
fice upon payment of Php100.00 to the Cashier.

Student IDs
All students will be issued with new ID cards at the beginning of the new school year. This year there will be
no need for returning students to visit the Security Office as we will be utilizing the photographs taken for the
yearbooks.

School Passes
School passes issued to parent’s employees and representa-
tives need to be replaced for next school year. As of August
31, 2011 the green bordered passes will be invalid.
The security office is now accepting applications for new school
passes, however the cards will not be available for collection
before July 1, 2011.
Each family will be given two free school passes. Additional
school passes may be obtained after paying a processing fee of
Php100.00 each to the Cashier’s Office.

2, Car Stickers for the New School Year

The car stickers for school year 2011/2012 will be available from
the security office beginning July 1, 2011.
For vehicles already displaying an existing sticker, parents
should submit a completed renewal form with a copy of a cur-
rent LTO official receipt. For new vehicles, parents are re-
minded that a copy of the vehicle’s certificate of registration and
a current official receipt need to be submitted with the application. Applications for vehicles registered with
companies or other institutions should be supported by a letter of assignment.
Each ISM family will be issued one vehicle sticker free of charge. Any additional stickers will be issued follow-
ing payment of P100 to the cashier’s office.

I would like to thank all members of the ISM community for their cooperation across this school year
in helping us maintain ISM as a safe and secure environment for our children.
