Domain: Learning and Teaching


Focus: Improve Reading and Writing outcomes for students.
(priority/objective)
Expected Outcome: Greater consistency in the teaching and assessing of Writing across
the school.
Consistency in the teaching of Reading across the school.
Greater engagement of boys in Writing.
Students are engaged in self assessment.
Target: To increase the NAPLAN Writing mean score in year 5 2010 by the
expected growth plus 4 mean points from their year 3 mean score.
To increase the NAPLAN writing score for Yr 5 boys by the expected
growth plus 4 mean points from their year 3 mean score.
Increase the percentage of students in the top two bands of Yr 5
Reading and Writing from their Yr 3 NAPLAN data by 5 percent.
Improve each Indigenous student’s reading and writing from Feb.
2010 baseline data according to goals set out in their personalized
learning plans measured by Benchmark reading levels, Read and
Retell rubric analysis and First Steps Maps.
Contribute to the achievement of the Department’s Accountability and
Performance Indicators for Indigenous students in reading/writing
related to an increase of 15 mean point gain by 2013.
All of Year 1 students reading minimum Benchmark Level 16 by mid
term 4.

Domain: Learning and Teaching
Focus: Improve Numeracy outcomes for students
(priority/objective)
Expected Outcome: Greater consistency in the teaching of maths across the school and in
the use of the language of maths
Students will demonstrate greater competency in maths, and be able
to articulate their thinking.
Target: To increase the NAPLAN Numeracy mean score for year 5 in 2010 by
the expected growth plus 4 mean points from their year 3 mean score.
All K-3 students will have had a SENA assessment by mid Term 4.
To increase MYMC mid year scores by – 15 percent in year 4 from
term 1 level to end of term 2 level across 13 different indicators
(individual and class/year mean).
To increase MYMC mid year scores by - 10 percent in year 5 from
term 1 level to end of term 2 level across 13 different indicators
(individual and class/year mean).
To increase MYMC mid year scores by - 10 percent in year 6 from
term 1 level to end of term 2 level across 13 different indicators
(individual and class/year mean).
Contribute to the achievement of the Department’s Accountability and
Performance Indicators for Indigenous students in numeracy related to
an increase of 15 mean point gain by 2013.

Actions
Strengthen students’ mental computation and problem solving skills.

Strengthen whole school understandings of a Balanced Numeracy program of teaching and


learning.

Strengthen common strategies for teaching, learning and assessment in numeracy

Introduce in class coaching and mentoring.

Focus: Improve teacher access to and use of learning technologies that
(priority/objective) enhance and extend student’s creativity and thinking in their learning.
Expected Outcome: Teacher programs will demonstrate emphasis on the application of
higher order thinking skills and planning for creative responses.
Student engagement will be evident.
Learning will be strengthened and connected through learning
technologies.
Target: Parent Satisfaction survey 2010 shows an increase from 62% in 2009
to 68% in relation to Computer technology is an integral part of
learning and teaching at the school.
Achieve a 2% increase in the percentage of staff who identify the use
of learning technologies is an integral part of learning and teaching in
their classroom from 83% in 2009.

Actions
Develop an Ainslie ICT/learning technologies document.

Acquire new hardware (PCs, lap tops, IWBs, accessories).

Develop and coach staff in hardware use and learning technologies

Increase access for students and staff to IT.

Build shared understandings of learning technologies that enhance thinking and creativity.

Monitor use by staff and students.

Domain: Leading and Managing


Focus: Improve teacher knowledge, understanding and use of assessment,
(priority/objective) monitoring and data to plan for and improve student learning

Expected Outcome: Shared understandings and knowledge of effective formative


assessments in the areas of literacy and numeracy P-6.
Consistent use of agreed data sets across teams.
Teachers will make evidence based decisions when planning.
Annual Assessment and Monitoring Plan developed and implemented.

Target: Increase the percentage of staff who use results from system testing
and system processes to inform their planning from 56% in 2009 to
65% in 2010.

Focus: Maintain and enhance students’ participation in discussions about
(priority/objective) their ownership of learning and engagement in learning

Expected Outcome: Students will demonstrate greater responsibility for their learning and
demonstrate greater engagement with their learning.

Target: Improvement from 2009 to 2010 in positive results from Yr 5 and 6


students answers to question in satisfaction survey about ‘having a
say in the things they learn’ (from 2009 75% to 80% positive result)
Improve individual targeted students’ on time arrival and/or attendance
by 10 percent from end term 1 baseline data to
mid term 4.

Actions
PD and readings around student voice and negotiation.

Maximise opportunities for student voice.

Closer and more regular monitoring of individual students through their PLPs and ILPs.

Focus: Maintain and enhance home school partnerships

Expected Outcome: Parents will express understanding of school curriculum, student
learning and school management practices
ESL and Indigenous parents will demonstrate greater engagement
with the school and understanding of their child’s learning

Target: Increase parent satisfaction related to effective “communication” from


74% in 2009 to 79% in 2010
Increase parent satisfaction related to receiving appropriate
information about their child’s progress from 73% in 2009 to 78% in
2010

Actions
Effective communication of school practices as well as individual student learning.
