The Hayashi Reiki Manual
Tadao Yamaguchi, Frank Arjava Petter, and Chujiro Hayashi, Lotus Press, Shangri‐La
Chujiro Hayashi is the highly renowned student of Reiki founder Mikao
Usui responsible for spreading Reiki to the West. He was also a medical
Doctor that practiced Usui Reiki for 15 years before passing away. His
experience was written into his Ryoho Shinshin (treatment guide)
contained in this book. Which also contains lots at fascinating information
and key ideas of authentic Usui Reiki including
• The concept of Byosen
• Ketsueki Kokan – The Blood Circulation Technique
• Hand positions illustrated with numerous colour photographs
• Mr Matsui Interview from Sunday Mainichi newspaper 1928
• Chiyoko Yamaguchi’s first Reiju experience
The book resulted from the meeting between world renowned Reiki Master Frank Arjava Petter and
the Yamaguchi family, who have first‐hand experience of traditional Japanese Reiki directly from Dr.
Hayashi. It contains interesting historical accounts of Tadao Yamaguchi's (co‐author) family
member’s experiences whilst training with Hayashi. It is highly recommended for students of Jikiden
Reiki as well as other Reiki styles. It is also an incredibly useful practical guide, and an excellent
reference manual for Reiki practitioners of any style.
The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui
Frank Arjava Petter and Mikao Usui, Lotus Press, Shangri‐La
Mikao Usui was the founder of Shin Shin Kaizen Usui Reiki Ryoho – the Usui
Reiki treatment for Improvement of Body and Mind. His treatment guide
(Ryoho shin shin) has been translated and is now available to the public in
this book.
There are also descriptions of some of the traditional Japanese Reiki
techniques of Miako Usui. These include (Byosen) Reiji‐Ho – a method for
finding accumulated toxins in the body, Gassho hands and Joshin Kokyuu‐Ho
(a breathing technique)and some interesting background information. The
book is also illustrated with 100 colourful and helpful photos and we
consider it an important addition to the book collection of anyone who has
an interest in authentic Japanese Reiki.
Reiki – the Legacy of Dr Usui
Frank Arjava Petter, Lotus Press, Shangri‐La
I recommend this book because it contains translations of two key information
sources for authentic Usui Reiki Ryoho from the founder of Reiki himself Mikao
Usui. These two documents form part of the Usui Reiki Manual published by the
Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai (Study Institute)
• “why I teach this method publicly” by Mikao Usui
• Questions and Answers (Documented interview)
The Spirit of Reiki
Frank Arjava Petter, Walter Luebeck, William Lee Rand, Lotus Press, Shangrila
I recommend this book because it contains:
• Translations of the 125 Meiji Emperor poems selected by Mikao Usui
• Original Usui Reiki techniques.
Reiki Fire
Frank Arjava Petter
I recommend this book because it contains
• Interesting Information about Mikao Usui, the founder of reiki
• A Full translation of his memorial stone which is essential reading for people
wanting to know about authentic Reiki practice.
Hawayo Takata’s Reiki story
Helen J Haberly, Archedigm, , ISBN 0‐944135‐06‐4
I recommend this book because it contains interesting reading about the time
Takata Sensei spent time in Japan with Hayashi Sensei, which gives you a flavour of
the Japanese approach to Reiki. Although lots to be discarded too in light of more
recent information coming out of Japan, it is still a worthwhile read.
Recommended Non‐Reiki Books
Bushido – The Soul of Japan
Dr. Inazo Nitobe, A.M., Ph.D.
“What Japan was she owed to the Samurai”. Dr Nitobe is an important
man in Japanese History (reflected in the fact that he is pictured on a
Japanese Banknote). This is not a Reiki book, but it is an insight into the
mind of the Japanese.
Bushido is the warrior code of the samurai – over hundreds of years it
shaped the entire culture of the country and the character of its
people. It is responsible for a way of thinking that is incredibly unique.
While bushido is not alive with the bright flame that it once was, it is
still in the hearts and minds of the Japanese people. It details the ethic
system of Bushido which includes Justice; Courage; Benevolence;
Politeness; Veracity; Sincerity; Self‐Control; Loyalty and Honour. Quote
from the book ‐ “without understanding Bushido the moral ideas of
present Japan are a sealed volume”.
The Secret
Rhonda Byrne
Learn how to use the law of attraction – and take control of your life! The
secret / the law of attraction has been understood by some of the most
prominent people in history: Plato, Galileo, Beethoven, Edison, Carnegie,
Einstein, along with other inventors, theologians, scientists, and great thinkers.
Now the secret is being revealed to the world.
From the introduction – “As you learn the secret you will come to know how
you can have, be, or do anything you want. You will come to know who you
really are. You will come to know the true magnificence that awaits you in life”.
The Hidden Messages in Water
Masaru Emoto
A fantastic book from a Japanese author. Mr Emoto’s work with
water crystals clearly demonstrates with a scientific foundation that
thoughts and words impact the world around us. In this case the
effects of various positive and negative things such as words (e.g. I
hate you or I love you) and music (e.g. Beethoven vs heavy metal)
etc were tested on water. The water was then frozen to give crystals
that were then examined under a microscope and photographed.
The results are amazing and the insights of Mr Emoto are very
inspiring.
Apart from that there are lots of fantastic photographs of the water
crystals so the reader can clearly see how they were affected.
This book also offers helps demonstrate the importance of
Kotodama in Japanese Reiki. Masuro Emoto is a friend of Tadao
Yamaguchi who conducted research using Jikiden Reiki Kotodama –
the results can be found included in Tadao Yamaguchi’s latest book
“Light on the Origins of Reiki” (see above).
