From January 2010 to March 2011, Foursquare Missions, through our Relief and

Compassion ministry and the partnership with our U.S. Churches, have ministered and
are ministering to 17 nations that experienced disasters around the world. Our hearts
have been broken by the devastation, losses and death. And though we pray that it
might be different, we anticipate that this will not be the last of global disasters we are
involved with as a church family.

Yet, in the midst of such pain, we are so grateful to God that, because of the generosity
and love of the Foursquare Church, together we have been able to provide some
measure of relief, compassionate care and genuine expressions of love and support.

Romans 8:22-23 tells us, “We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in
the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who
have the first-fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to
sonship, the redemption of our bodies.” Jesus is returning soon and we need only look
around us to see that there is a quickening in the earth and in the spiritual realm that
reminds us of this blessed hope. There is coming a day when we will no longer suffer
in these ways!

In the midst of these tragedies, we also see uniquely positioned before us, an open
door to proclaim hope and the saving grace of Jesus Christ to those who desperately
need Him. As we bring this hope, and minister to the practical needs of those affected
in these countries, together we are making a significant difference in the lives of
thousands of people around the world.

So we say thank you for your continued partnership, your love, your care, your
kindness, and your generosity that enabled us to give, to love, and bring the hope that
does not fail to people in their hour of greatest felt need through the ministry of Relief
and Compassion.

In His Service,

Dr. James Scott Jr.

Event and Effects On January 12, 2010 the nation of Haiti was hit with an earthquake
that lasted for 35 seconds but the results were devastating. It is estimated that more than
250,000 people died, hundreds of thousands were injured and more than a million people
were made homeless.

Our Response
The Foursquare church has responded by sending financial aid, teams and long and short
term relief workers. A base camp was established in March of 2010 and a long term plan
and strategy was employed in partnership with the Foursquare Haiti national church,
together advancing the Kingdom through discipleship and church planting.

How you can partner with the work in Haiti There are many ways you can partner
with the amazing work that God is doing in Haiti, below is a list of some of the training and
projects that have already begun or are in the process of starting up. If you have skills or a
heart for any of these areas please contact us!

Event and Effects After six months of intense rain in December of 2010, the Canal
Deldeque Dam broke and flooded the lowlands with water from the Magdelaina River,
the largest river in Colombia. The flooding caused waters as high as sixteen feet in some
places. Approximately three million people have been affected, thousands have lost their
homes, and nearly five hundred people have died. Forty Foursquare Churches were
affected, some totally destroyed by the floods; thankfully, none of our church members
were harmed. The situation is still critical in Colombia as there has been little response to
this disaster, and the spring rains have begun again.

Our Plan for Response

• Bringing food and medical supplies to those who need it;
• Assisting pastors with the rebuilding of their churches and homes.

How You Can Help

Pray that through this disaster in Colombia, lives will be touched and hearts will be open
to the gospel. Pray that our Foursquare family and churches in Colombia will be a light to
those affected by this tragedy.

Event and Effects On March 11, 2011 the Northeast region of Japan was struck by a
9.0M earthquake, followed by a tsunami reaching 78 feet high and sweeping as far as six
miles inland. Destructive fires brought the total devastation of Kessennuma and Iwate where
thousands were killed. Partial core meltdowns in the nuclear reactors near Fukushima added
to the devastation.

Thousands of lives were lost as entire villages were swept out to sea by the tsunami. Tens
of thousands are homeless and additional thousands are living in tent cities and shelters.
More than 13,000 people are confirmed dead and over 12,000 are missing, presumed dead.

Our Response We are partnering with Foursquare churches in Japan and CRASH Japan
(an interdenominational Christian relief organization) to provide information, supplies, and
lodging for short-term relief teams assisting on the ground.

Our two-year plan for relief, compassion, and church-planting is as follows

1-3 months Bring pastors and supervisors to the disaster area to create awareness and
encourage vision-casting;
3-6 months Send short-term teams to work in partnership with local believers and churches
to assist in clean up operations and to pray for local residents;
7-12 months Develop ongoing relationships as leaders and workers minister in communities
impacted by this event.
13-18 months Establish “houses of prayer” throughout communities we are ministering in.
19-24 months Pioneer churches by hosting “celebration” services at base camp locations.

How you can help

Pray For wisdom, faith and favor as we share the love of Jesus in the most unreached
areas of Japan.

Give You can give a financial gift to the work in Japan through www.give.foursquare.org/relief
or you could help to support short-term workers from a Foursquare Church. You might also
give:
• $1000 to help a family to restart their lives with bedding, clothing and appliances; or
• $500 to provide housing and shelter for volunteer workers for one month; or
• $100 to help a local church to purchase and distribute relief goods to the needy.

Go
• Short term teams willing to “shovel, clean and pray” in partnership with Japanese-
speaking believers are needed immediately.
• Short-term children’s workers are needed to help provide emotional care and support
for children suffering from PTSD.
• Long-term workers willing to serve as English teachers and church planters are needed in
this region where many have never been shown and told the love of Christ in a meaningful
way.

If you are interested in sending a short-term team to Japan please contact David Wheeler
at FMI Go Teams. If you would like more information about ministry opportunities and
challenges in Japan, please contact Corey at fminasia@psmail.net.
