Objective:
To obtain a position in an industrial field that will become the starting founda
tion to building my knowledge and skills while in the process of earning my B.S
of Science in Chemistry.
Qualifications:
Worked in a chemical research laboratory for two semesters at NIU studying the
effects of crown compounds within different chemical complexes using various mas
s spectroscopy analysis.
Basic skills involve: Redox titration, pipetting/measuring methods, serial dilu
tions, evaporation, gravimetric analysis, pH testing.
Basic instrumentation knowledge:
o ESI Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS and GC/MS)
o Infrared Spectroscopy
o UV-VIS
o HPLC
o Fluorescence Spectroscopy
Experience:
NIU Department of Chemistry, DeKalb, IL
August 24th, 2007 ~ April 25th, 2008
Undergraduate Research:
1 Research included an ESI MS analysis of compound mixtures with diaminodecan
e & dichlorohexano 18-C-6; 1,10-diaminodecane & 18-C-6; dibenzo 18-C-6 & diamino
decane; hexamethylene diamine & 1,10-diaminodecane; and stock solution preparati
ons for Angiotension II & Mellitian.
2 Gained experience in deciphering ESI MS and MS/MS charts, reading appropria
te m/z ratios and molecular weights for each chemical compound introduced, pin-p
ointed impurities lurking within each MS scan, dilution and calculation methods
needed to fully complete each test run.
3 Analyzed/determined molecular ratios and weights during MS scan of each com
pound mixture using ESI MS and MS/MS also calculating the concentrations for eac
h chemical compound using basic algebraic formulas.
4 Performed approximately 80+ hours of research in the laboratory.
