EISP BUYER‟S GUIDE 2011
4
INTRODUCTION
You are reading the first edition of the e-invoicing services providers buyer‟s Guide, a
comprehensive overview of e-invoicing and e-billing services providers worldwide.
The E-invoicing Guide 2011 was conceived with a twofold approach in mind, one purely practical
and the other more conceptual. On the one hand, this Guide is designed to serve as the ultimate
informative tool for professionals in the e-invoicing field. It aims to paint a comprehensive picture of
the global e-invoicing ecosystem, which at the present moment is more complex, multi-faceted and
riddled with issues than ever before. On the other hand, and at a more conceptual level, it was
conceived to mirror one of the main trends currently shaping the e-invoicing industry – the growing
fragmentation of the global market, which sees new players emerging every day from a variety of
backgrounds.
The e-invoicing playing field is becoming broader, more diverse, richer in members and no longer
made up solely of the traditionally-known „core‟ service providers. It has come to encompass
players coming from such backgrounds as B2B integration and enterprise resource planning
(ERP), banking or else document management companies. Inevitably, such companies usually join
the market with different business cases in mind and more often than not, their pricing models also
vary considerably. This leads to an even higher level of fragmentation.
This fragmentation that the E-invoicing Guide 2011 clearly reflects can very well be regarded as a
double-edged sword, in the sense that it gives rise to a lack of transparency, but it also signals a
diversification of the industry. This results in growing business opportunities for all market players.
From this perspective, the global e-invoicing ecosystem emerges as a field of endless opportunities
for the well-informed professionals. It is precisely to this growing category that the Paypers E-
invoicing Guide 2011 aims to cater.
Another positive development emerging from the growing diversity of the e-invoicing ecosystem is
that business propositions tend to increasingly focused on customer needs. While this seemingly
gives rise to more fragmentation, it also gives rise to closer interaction between all players on the
market. As such, technological requirements may differ from one company to the next - for
example, one organization may require a messaging solution, while another other might seek an e-
financing solution. Given the closer relationship previously mentioned, what we get in the end are
solutions that are not only more convergent, but also offer more than just replacing traditional post
from A to B.
It is evidently becoming increasingly hard for buyers to actually make the correct choice; this in a
context in which forming a comprehensive picture of the total A/R or A/P processes a task
becoming more challenging by the day task. Payments, SEPA and the financial supply chain is
starting to occupy a more significant role in the e-invoicing equation, as the usefulness of end-to-
end e-invoicing presentment and payment solutions is fast becoming evident. What, then, is a
buyer to do? How is he to make up his mind in an ecosystem which presents significant
opportunities but is hampered by lack of transparency?
This document – the Paypers E-invoicing Services Providers Buyer‟s Guide - may very well be
regarded as the first effective step towards making a successful, informed decision. This is due to
the fact that in putting it together, The Paypers has come up with an overview of the global e-
invoicing / e-billing space, compiled as a Buyer‟s Guide and listing a comprehensive list of banks,
software vendors and services providers worldwide.
The Paypers has been catering to the e-invoicing industry for well over three years now – with daily
news updates and regular elaborate research and analyses on various aspects of this highly
fragmented field. Think of this Guide as the ultimate information gateway on e-invoicing / e-billing
services providers worldwide. It is a reliable initiative developed independently, designed to
function as a one-stop-shop for professionals in the e-invoicing field and providing them with
diverse information concerning over 240 companies worldwide.
This Guide is a must-have when it comes to making an informed choice which answers a clear
industry need for market transparency. It is a great means to stay up to date with the latest in what
regards market capabilities and e-invoicing industry developments, a highly useful document that
must be kept at hand at all times.
